To be honest, is there really any reason to get the slide outs instead of the add ons?

I guess the only reason I can think of is so that I can swap the hooks with the slide outs.... but why would I ever want to do that once I have the hooks?

Just goes to show everyone is different, I have two sets sitting around that I don't even use. I have a buyer for one set if I can find all of the parts.

Not me......:)

Maybe it has just been that I have never hooked an implement up on such a fancy a tractor with the slide outs and all the little adjustments. I do love just backing up and hooking it up though.

The Pat's system is probably nice for a basic smaller tractor as it adds versatility but as you increased in size, the otherwise unobtainable options become standard. A long time ago, my smaller Kubota's had fixed length tongs and pinned offsets while the bigger units like I have now are screw drive offstes and telescoping tongs.

I hook some large and cumbersome implements, the most cumbersome being the 82" lucknow rear mount blower. It's heavy and it's hard to handle but the telescoping tongs and telescoping sway stays make it easy to hook up. You disengage the balls, drop the tongs, back up 'till your are close, swing in the tongs over the pins and snap on a hitch clip eash side. Slip on the top link and pick up the implement pin the side stays and level with the screw/crank adjuster. Sounds complex but it's about a minute and the blower weighs 1500 pounds.

I am in the minority I am sure as most people seem to love them. I would, however, do a hook up with the new M7040 to see if it is worth losing the ability to use the slide outs, that's what I couldn't handle.

Of course, I only use the 3PH on our L5030 and other tractors, our M8540 has never had anything on the 3PH as we use a pull type cutter and drag scraper.

I don't need 'em. I have my wife....:D

Hmm. I think you guys might have convinced me to give this a shot without the Pats.

If someone else has the same model tractor and has hooked up implements with and without the Pat's please weigh in. I'm on a business trip for two weeks and the dealer is willing to let my wife pick up the slide in so that she can send it into Greenwell.

A slide in pair of hooks would then be arriving for me around the time my tractor arrives. So there isn't a better time to do this than now while I am away and my tractor is still at the dealer's.

If your implements are all cat. 1 a wider "hook" might be a issue getting them to fit in some narrow cat.1 pin slots. Soooooo if I was you I would get the cat. 1 slide ins. If and when you get some cat. 2 implements you can always just slide in your old balls or order new hooks then. That was my plan............wonder what is wrong with it?

I talked to Vicky at Greenwell and she pointed out to me that the hooks are the same width - cat 1 or cat 2.

Same width yes ... same size for the pin ... NO.

I was going to suggest that prior to buying the Pat's system....besides, you, like me, have a wife to help out........

I actually have more consternation hitching the hay mower than anything else. The mower is pulled via an auxilliary hitch that fits on the drawbar and artuculates through a pin/ball arrangement similar to the balls on your tongs but the tongue on the mower is VERY heavy and has to line up perfectly to engage, much harder than hooking anything to the 3PH.

Interesting though that she suggested you get the Cat 1 hooks and me the Cat 2 :) I guess I can come up with good reasons to go either way. I've only got Cat 1 stuff and really no plans to go with anything Cat 2. I imagine they can easily make me hooks that are Cat 1. At the same time, I don't think it is particularly hard to bush stuff that I have to Cat 2.
