Tractor
Kubota M7040 cab/hyd shuttle - current, Kubota L3400 - traded
I'm getting a Kubota M7040 soon and would like to order a Pats QH to fit it. The tractor is advertised as Cat 1/2 - can take Cat 2 attachments.

All my attachments are Cat 1 and I have been carefully ensuring that I can use them. I expect they will all have to be bushed up to Cat 2 however.

I notice now that there are a few options I have wrt. which Pat's system to get.

First I notice that there is a new 'slide in' model. In addition there are the 'Standard' models. The standard models seem to either have the same receiver and hook or I can get a cat 2 receiver and a cat 1 hook.

Can anyone give me some thoughts on which one I should be getting? I figure getting one that has a Cat 1 hook *may* be best? as then I don't have to bush all my stuff? Then again, It is probably not that expensive to bush stuff and tho I don't plan on it, some day a cat 2 hook might come in handy.

I have a Kubota L5040 and its a 1/2 hitch also. I have thought about what I would get and here are my thoughts, they might be all wrong!:D If you have cat.1 implements I would go with the cat.1 slide ins. Your tractor is bigger and if you get the ones thats stick out you might run out of travel with your pto shafts as in they won't be long enough. The slide ins keep all that the same distance. If your implements are all cat. 1 a wider "hook" might be a issue getting them to fit in some narrow cat.1 pin slots. Soooooo if I was you I would get the cat. 1 slide ins. If and when you get some cat. 2 implements you can always just slide in your old balls or order new hooks then. That was my plan............wonder what is wrong with it?

Nothing.

The top link is reversible. One end is Cat1, the other is Cat2. The tongs are Cat2. I can't see any reason for a Pats system on either of my tractors as the tong ends are moveable.

I just keep spacers in the toolbox as I too have implements that are each way.

The trick to an easy hookup is use your wife as a helper.:D....

Oh, and keep your balls lubricated........

Good information to know about the top link. I'm going to go with a hydraulic top link so I'll get it made to a cat 1 size hole. I can always use the original top link if I ever get a cat 2 implement.

I'm spoiled now that I have had a Pat's. Hard to do without something you have already had :)

bilrus61 plan seems reasonable. The only implement I can envision having a problem with if I go with the cat 2 slide in's might be my cheapo Kodiak landscape rake. The pins on it are not particularly long and they are the 'non capture' type.

I talked to Vicky at Greenwell. She suggested sending the slider into them so that they can get measurements off it as they have done a few for this tractor and they have all been different :-(

The Pats is like an addition. Once you have it you can't go back. I guess I'll be sending mine in.

Just goes to show everyone is different, I have two sets sitting around that I don't even use. I have a buyer for one set if I can find all of the parts.

Maybe it has just been that I have never hooked an implement up on such a fancy a tractor with the slide outs and all the little adjustments. I do love just backing up and hooking it up though.

I am in the minority I am sure as most people seem to love them. I would, however, do a hook up with the new M7040 to see if it is worth losing the ability to use the slide outs, that's what I couldn't handle.

Of course, I only use the 3PH on our L5030 and other tractors, our M8540 has never had anything on the 3PH as we use a pull type cutter and drag scraper.

I have a set and love them ... I also have the slide out but opted for the add ons and I took Vicky's advise and went Cat 1 because the implements I use are Cat 1 and I can change out the pins on any Cat 2 implements I buy.

Hey wait a sec - she advised me to go with Cat 2 hooks and bush my implements!
