Where was your generator made?

Was Generac bought out by new owners or a new investment company? Who owns Generac?

I have no doubt about your loyalty to the brand, but have been down this road in depth with HVAC and have given up LOL
In 2006 it was purchased by some entity…possibly a holding group. And reorganized. New management, new goals, etc.

I forget what percentage of the home standby market it holds..it used to be 90%.

Ive sold and installed kohler, some B&Stratton, and cummins. There all about the same in capability as far as i can tell. I just had better luck working with generacs warranty and technical support teams. And since i hate having to tear into a generator and find out whats wrong with it to make it work again, i like that i dont have much issues with the 300+ units I maintain.

The big issue is, Americans, in general, want it cheap and so they buy the stuff of questionable quality. Cheap and quality and 2 words that are not synonymous with each other. You cannot have a top quality tool or anything else for that matter, cheaper than everything else. Just don't work that way.
I can only speak from experience within the HVAC field. What I do know is something being more expensive does not equate to better quality and less issues. That IS a fact within the HVAC industry.

I have a couple Honda's and am surprised to learn they "may" have been made in China. I also thought Geneac used to advertise they were made in the USA. I have no experience with Winco.

And old reliable US-made 13HP 6500W Generac, which I modified for LP use.

How about assembled in USA from components sourced worldwide?
What you need to find is a manufacturer's marketing flyer with where it is made or assembled.

In the HVAC field, guys would always say "made in America" but they were wrong. It is assembled in the USA, not "made in the USA". Even then, they were including the entire line sold by the manufacturer, but that is not always the case as some models are made elsewhere outside the US.

Guys on the street could add their own fudge factor, but the manufacturer can not.

My Ridgid has Yammyhammy motor. The generator head says One World Technologies but has a SC address. When I needed a part they gave me Gardner.

Gardner is the parts distributor for Ridged and the Yamaha engines that are used on them.

Cummins home standby generators are designed and built in the United States.”

Looks pretty clear cut to me. 🤷‍♂️

My uncle has a small WWII winco 115 volt USA

I have a 1975 Winco made in USA but it’s LOUD with a 30 amp auto transfer switch.

Know nothing about the generator market other than the training I went to for Generac.

That said, York HVAC systems (Owned by JCI, recently bought out by Bosch up to 50 tons) are built in Wichita Kansas. Been at the facility probably over 40 times. They are built in the USA.

That said, there is a difference between "built" and "made" by legal definition that a manufacturer can claim.

York HVAC systems although may be built in the USA, legally, they are "assembled in the USA" not "Made in the USA".

By legal definition, are the parts supplied by Cummins enough to meet the percentage of parts allowed by the US government to lay legal claim to "Made in America"?

Off the record, I don't go to the facility in Kansas anymore because I told my boss I'd prefer not to put one in my own home LOL

The irony is the only other HVAC manufacturer that can lay claim to "assembled in the USA" claim is in Texas and they sold out to a Japanese company a ways back.

Neither HVAC manufacture (at least at the time I went to both) could claim "made in the USA" but only "assembled in the USA".

If I'm not mistaken, Cummins has their blocks cast in India....

Ingersoll Rand (compressors) has their compressor pumps cast and assembled in India...

Cummins owns Onan. According to the website, Onans are made in China and Cummins are made in USA

the old time Onan generators were all USA manufactured and assembled. then they sold out to Cummins. After that sale, it became harder and harder to get parts for the older Onans. i had a great cast iron 7KW workhorse Onan that was bullet proof...up until the sale. than parts became real hard to find. i sold it to a guy back east that wanted it for parts. he paid a good deal of $$$ and covered freight.

I looked and the only thing I could find was "Built in the USA".

Either way, I understand I'm arguing semantics here, but after dealing with manufacturers marketing departments, legally, it's unbelievable what you have to do to state "Made in the USA" on advertising from a manufacturer.

As mentioned, no nothing about how they build generators, but within the HVAC world, it's impossible for the manufacturer's to meet the guidelines set forth to use parts that are made in the USA as well (EVERY single HVAC unit you buy has X amount of parts from China or some other place).

I stopped associating with JCI (AKA York) some years ago, so perhaps things have changed on all the legalities. I do know one reason for the semantics so to speak is a lot of companies were claiming "made in the USA" even when they would import the equipment overseas, because Americans generally associated "made in the USA" with quality. That's why they at least used to have the "assembled in the USA" logo, and when you think about it, is no different than "built in America" with is different than "made in the USA".

On my end with work, sad to say, I don't always see that being the case. Next system I install in my own home (up in the attic) will have a Carrier name, but it is 100% made in China.

Ironically enough, Bosch equipment has grown on me on how they utilize a inverter compressor, but they are 100% made in China. As noted, Bosch bought JCI (AKA York) and I'm sincerely hoping Bosch can implement the quality control they have in China to the Wichita facility. By the same token, I'm also hoping JCI can improve Bosch's software that contractors have to use because Bosch's implementing of software 100% sucks. Go figure...

The same company who makes Bosch's wall mount air handlers is the exact same facility that makes Carriers wall mount air handlers, all made in China. Go figure as well.
