Received much good advice on an earlier thread on type of container to catch the 11.2 gallons of hydraulic fluid - never got to that point. Had planned the entire 50 hour thing on my L3130HST.
- Started with engine oil. Drain plugs came out ok, one dropped into hot oil in collection pan, find that later.
- Oil filter wouldn't budge (See picture of arsenal)
- Finally punched hole in filter with a spike and able to turn slightly.
- Smart, caught oil dripping from punched hole, moved pan after dripping stopped.
- Couldn't turn off with screwdriver in punchef hole, so got my "Big Bertha" pipe wrench. (No offense to the Ladies named Bertha - use the term with much respect)
-started to turn. forgot about punched hole and oil ran onto blacktop drive.
- Finally off , break for 2 Brewskies.
- Put plugs back into pan couldn't find one copper washer - oh yeah, it's in the pan with the used oil.
- Got a funnel with a screen, dumped very slowly into 5 gal. container (Used.dirty oil doesn't run very fast thru a screen), took 1/2 hour, no washer found.
- Finally found it still stuck to the oil pan.
- Finally adding new oil. The Amsoil container spout was too large to fit the oil add hole (added a little new oil to the old oil on the driveway). no problem, get a funnel.
- Used a funnel with a flexible spout, dumped in the first quart when I realized I had forgot to put on the new filter - a little more new oil on the blacktop.
Major revelation: New oil and used oil soften your blacktop at the same rate.
Trannie and front differential had to wait for another day, my simple mind could only take so much - no more adult refreshments in the fridge , getting dark, too tired to run to town.
This was long, but it saved me big bucks on a shrink - Thanks TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
