At first take your time get used to where the controls are and what their functions are. You will end up doing some pretty dumb things don't worry we all have, that learning curve can be pretty steep at times. But first and foremost is safty both on the machine and around the machine, an accident only takes a second and may take months to recover from. Never stick your hands inbetween any possible pinch points or put yourself inbetween the tractor and a piece of equipment. Once you get used to her go out and run the heck out of her---she will love it --Gordon

I was in exact same boat as you. I got the 2710 (but have more acres and a house to build).

1. RTFM. (Read The Effing Manual)
2. Get dealer to show you stuff, if possible (2nd time buyers skip this step and go right to online buy)
3. TAKE YOUR TIME. Practice, be slow
4. Read this forum every week, and you'll find lots of safety tips and how-to's
5. Learn to fix stuff; it helps to be somewhat mechanically adept

[sorry to repeat stuff, but gotta get rid of the Lurker tag]
