I need some input and a little help about wheeled excavators. I know they are top heavy and not as agele as tracked ones. But I think one might work in certain applications. Elemateing a lot of track and wheel motor problems. If you have time, go Google search "wheel excavators". You will see one pop up on Alibabba (yellow one) for $6,199. It says free shipping. Does that mean shipped to your door (plus tax, I assume sales tax) How would you go about getting some of the specs on it, hp, weight, digging depth, speed, make of engine, etc. Give me your thoughts.

I like the idea of them since I really hate tracks, and how slow it is to get anywhere with something on tracks. From what I've seen on Machinery Trader, they are always a lot more expensive than the same sized excavator with tracks. A lot more expensive!!!!

I would be very nervous about something costing $6,199

I think the issue is the amount of import and handling fees you can get stuck with trying to import machinery yourself.

I agree the duties / customs fees can be a significant unknown cost depending on how it’s classified and where it’s made. Does it say FOB (free on board) + port or city? If so, it would be shipped to that port / city free and you would be responsible for shipping from there to your location.

If we are talking about a chinese mini-excavator on wheels instead of tracks, the first issue is going to be that the machine will need hydraulic supports to raise it off the tires when digging so it doesn't bounce and blow the tires.

Another issue will be that the wheels likely won't have the same traction as tracks when it comes to being able to push dirt back into the hole with the front blade.

My impression is that the mini-excavators don't have as many track issues as the mini skids because of the slower travel speed and because mini excavators aren't being used to transport buckets of material that add more onto the track system.

I did see a YT video where a guy upgraded his mini-skid tracks with ones that were about twice as thick as the OEM to try to solve his track issues. I think it's too soon to tell if it was worth it.

The way I understand the add is free shipping. Google, wheel excavator. It's the yellow one listed from Alibabba fir $6,100. Says 3 ton. How can you contact them to get more information?

^^^^ then there's the same question about when you need a part!
Wheeled machines are not mechanically driven and there's at least 1 drive motor per axle and more likely 1 at each driven wheel.

I can’t find the page you’re looking at when I googled. Why don’t you either copy the link / address into your post or take a screenshot or photo and attach them to this post?

I'm starting to see the chinese stuff locally, and lots of yt videos. There are even dealers on CL selling them. I think the parts problem is going to work itself out, and if you are handy you can make things work.

Looks like the delivery is in May. They are going to have your money for a long time before you would ever receive your item, this would concern me. What payment method are you going to use?

I bought Chinese generator. A piece broke in the recoil of starter rope. After two months of not being able to get part, I got new generator under warranty

Or one motor and drive chains

Since there is no obvious contact button on that page I suspect if you start the buying process it would provide more details on the shipping before you enter any payment method / details and commit to the purchase. If you are asked to provide payment details before they providing shipping details I would not go any further cause you have to be cautious.

I think there’s a good reason why wheeled excavators are typically reserved for working on paved surfaces. Wheel’s excavators have much smaller wheels than other equipment in the same weight class would have. I think constantly getting stuck will be a real problem.

If you do start an inquiry and quote make sure you get the things you want/need and some spare parts.

One other question - why not a Tractor-Loader-Backhoe - would seem to be a better deal and you get a bucket and more versatility?

They can build decent machines if you spec in what you want - like better pumps, load sensing Hyd, and brands like Eaton, Parker for hydraulics, and Kubota or Yanmar Diesel

Then ensure it has things like;
- Hyd Thumb
- Piston protection Guards on all Cylinders
- A piston style Hydraulic pump for travel and load sensing
- Hyd Cooler and Hyd Return filters
- 4 Ea Spare filters - Air, Oil Hyd etc.
- Spare Wheel motors
- Diging Specs - whats the KN or bucket force (should be 4000LB range)

Re commercial terms - request DDP terms - Delivered Duty Paid - to you. They pay for and arrange all shipping, customs, brokerage and duty,
