What's up with JD?

/ What's up with JD? #21
I'm contemplating upgrading one tractor, with a trade in (Deere).

Just all very frustrating - I would have had my price within 5 minutes from the old place.
One more week, and I just might visit a Kubota dealer, even though they are 30 miles farther away.

[end rant]

Kubota is not any Better, I have gone twice to a somewhat local dealer once in summer for a M125x and then just last week for a L5740 also called up my dealer who sold me my ZD325 in the spring this year. All of them told me they would call me back next day. Going to the next dealer an hour away and if they are not interested I duno. I like the Kubota brand and own a ZD325 and would like to add more Orange to a company the ZD.

If I told them I want 5 or 10 then maybe they would show some interest.

As for those saying Deere doesn't have filed service, they have for a wile here in Canada.

Well seems like the local Deere dealer in town got pushed out..there is a multi store Deere owner that just added the local Deere store to his list.

One other thing I saw...I was at Lowes and saw the new JD snow blower and at a quick glance sure enough it is the same exact snow blower on my show room floor only mine are orange with the Simplicity Logos on em???
Is John Deere making anything anymore?

<HUMOR>
No... okay, very little. Well, some... maybe in India, today that is, until that product does not suit them.
<HUMOR/>

Today I sold a guy a Woods PHD25. Woods supplies much of the Deere 'Frontier' implements but we did it at a price that was nearly $500 better.

<BUSINESS TALK>
What would be concerning is that in the long term Deere will start to loose control over the parts distribution of these products, now they are only as good as Woods... if they choose to support them at all. This just a happened here a few months ago. Deere was using Miller/Oxbo hay mergers ($80,000 things that put hay in a windrow for the non-farm guys) and painted them green. That arrangment went south and the companies parted ways. Now anyone left with one of these mergers can't get parts from Deere. Lucky for us that we sell them direct from the company that builds them and we now end up helping these customers out. I can't see how this business model is going to sustain the level of part support that Deere has become known for.

Ya gotta give them credit though, the company has done an amazing job selling themselves to the public. There are very few areas where Deere really is a true inovator, leader, etc. Yet to so many people they are an absolute icon. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic shakes out over the next few years.

Along the Front Range of Colorado, we have numerous Deere dealerships; but they are essentially owned by three franchisees. I have a hunch that the place I bought my tractor from will get sucked up by Colorado Equipment, which has the most number of dealerships and just bought a large Deere dealer near our new property.

This large dealer network is similar to the Autonation (a.k.a. GO in Colorado) model that works well for Autonation in the car & truck business. So far I can't complain about the Honda dealership that takes care of my wife's CRV and my Accord.

Only time will tell if this large dealer network business model works for Deere. If it improves the sales staff at the recently purchased joint near our new property...GREAT, as the salesman I dealt with out there for a couple of hydraulic kits was absolutely worthless.

However, I do get concerned about the lack of competition this business model provides.

They WERE painting Ariens JD colours up here as of a couple of years ago, not sure if they still are or not.

I never said Deere didnt have field service....what I meant was that they charge for haulage (to/from shop) or for for field service.....
Cat is happy to service my Parents Neighbor's Challenger just as if he woulda hauled it 4 hours south to the closest dealer.

Thats got more to do with the dealer than it does the brand. Down here CAT is charging $135/hr from the time they leave to the time they return for road service.

I have seen several instances in Maine whereas one John Deere dealer owns several franchises. I can't think of a Kubota franchise...

GreenRules,
I believe I know the Dealer you are talking about. He has recently bought out both a JD dealership and a Mahindra dealership. That puts his total to four dealerships. The two that were recently required will be combined into one at the Mahindra property.

I have been told that this was a move that was encouraged by JD.

At one of his stores he sells JD, Kubota, and Mahindra on the same lot. At a second location he is selling JD's and Mahindra, (another Kubota dealer right across the street).

Once the two recently purchased dealers are combined he will be selling JD and Mahindra at this location. He originally wanted to sell NH at this facility too, but I was told that JD put the stop to this.

Yep, thats the same one I'm thinking...and the one I now have to use....all in all, I heard stories both ways (good/bad) and honestly, I really cant complain. They still treat me better then the orange dealer does/did.

I heard that, and its been confirmed...Long story short, the dealership needed some "reccomended improvements" and the Owners were at the point of 2 options a) Retire b) pump Money into the dealership.

Never heard the NH rumor...

I'm sure your right... Around here CAT is having a hard time breaking into the "Tractor" market as a whole...

What model Deere hay merger did they discontinue a few months ago that parts are no loger available for?

......I've got JDparts all fired up..let's go look:)

I thought so....

If you don't know the Deere model number they sold it under how do you know they can't get parts for it???

Um... because I work in this business and this is what I do. I'm a sales person, not a parts technician. A few months ago a company wide bullitin went out that this had occured as a heads up for confused parts techs so they knew what was going on when customers started asking for parts for Deere mergers. Contrary to what it may look like, I don't have an axe to grind. I don't see the harm in having a constructive conversation on factual business practices of any of these companies. If you read my threads you'll find several that are very critical of some of the companies I do represent. If its that important to you, take the time and really look into this for yourself. Its not that important to me.

/ What's up with JD? #37
You chose to represent yourself on here as a dealer and not individually so what you say blows back on your business.

Every brand has it's good and it's bad but dealers of another brand of tractor going around saying John Deere is leaving their customers hanging in the wind sounds alot like scare tactics if you continue to refuse to provide even the most basic of information so that your claim can be verified. If JD is doing this (which I seriously doubt) I'm sure John Deere customers would like to hear about it.

You made serious accusations. Think about the impact that the perception that parts might not be available for VERY expensive equipment could do to a business.

If I came on here saying your dealership didn't honor a warranty or did some other terrible thing to a customer that left them with an un-usable multi thousand dollar piece of equipment how would you react?

I'm starting to think there's no truth in it. Why in the world you would represent your business on here and make unsubstantiated comments like that is beyond me.

Trust me Neil, while I enjoy reading about 90% of your posts and I do appreciate what your business does with providing Bushhog online parts and such......YOU HAVE ONE OF THE SHARPEST AXES AMONGST US.:p

Yep. Hammond's. The Hammond's in Auburn used to sell Allis Chalmers way back when. I stopped at their store up north once and I thought the salesman was a jerk. Delekto's were nice people. You won't see me in their new place anytime soon.
