What trailer for 4047?

I've also been in this debate with myself. I think I've settled on a car hauler with 18+2 dovetail, slide out ramps and 5k axles. I also have low cars I need to be able to transport as well so it seems like a good compromise. My biggest delimma is wood vs. steel floor.

I just found a 7.5K dual axle dual brake 10 ply tire 18' with 2' dovetail for only (only, ha!) $400 more than a 16'/2 with 5k axles. 6" steel versus the 5" on the 5k model. Not a bad buy (from what I have seen).
But that throws another wrench into the decision. I had just about decided to get out of the 3/4 ton truck and get a max-tow 1/2 ton. But the 7.5K axles and 6" steel add another 500 lbs and make the trailer/tractor extremely marginal for a 1/2 ton truck. So better safety margin/value/construction and 3/4 ton tow vehicle versus 1/2 ton pulling more than I would be comfortable with.
And, it is wood floor with a steel dovetail. for $3400

I could order an 18/2 with the 5" steel and 6K axles which would weigh 500 lbs less (8 ply tires), but only $200 less cost than the 7.5K axles/6"steel/10ply tire model.

Thanks for all the replies so far! I really hope I can get the tractor/loader/bucket/bushhog on the 18'/2' model. Probably the tail wheel will hang off (take off the tailwheel? and tie a flag? ha ha)

Also, with the wood vs steel floor debate, here are a couple points to consider.

Metal flooring will add more weight to the trailer.

Not sure if I agree with that one. But I could be wrong. I dont know. Dont get me wrong, I like the wood floor. Especially the rough cut white oak. But wood is HEAVY too. I guess it depends on how thick the steel is, how the trailer is made, and weather it is a full steel deck, or just the runners. And weather it is hardwood (white oak) or treated pine.

I personally would take delivery, hook up your longest implement, and measure it. Dont want to buy the wrong trailer. I just dont see how a 18+2 is going to work with that tractor. And even if you can cram it on, you have no room to adjust the load for balance. LS lists your tractor @ 132" long. Thats 11'. Even if you take the time to remove the tailwheel (or let it hang over), and add only a conservative 6' for a bushhog, thats already 17' long. And we havent even talked about the loader yet. I am sure it adds more than 3' to the front. So you are either going to be parking the loader bucket on the tongue (and being careful not to go too far you crush your truck in a tight turn), and/or letting more than just the tailwheel hang off the back. Either way, I think I would like a longer trailer....

The trailer dealer is the one that told me the metal deck would be heavier. I suppose he could be lying ... though I can't imagine why he would.

A heavier deck would also mean less remaining weight capacity...

Does anyone know the total overall length of the 4047 w/loader and a standard 6' BH? I myself did buy an 18' 10,400# trailer I just assume that if I ever need to take the tractor and the BH somewhere that the loader will not be on the tractor. I hate running the BH with the loader on, as a matter O fact I hate doing anything (other than using the loader) with the loader on. Now that is just me and I got a brand new Gatormade trailer for under 3K

and I just couldn't pass up that deal. I mainly only take the tractor out for loading fire wood into the dump so it worked for me.

OK wrong abbreviation BH (brush Hog) but you know what I mean!

Looks alot like mine, just the stainless-vs-painted fenders. Does your have "C" channel crossbeams for the deck section? I can't tell if that front cross beam is C or Angle ? Good price though. I think mine was $3200.

To be honest I just don't know I haven't really crawled under it yet and I am not about to do so in this weather. Basically I pulled it into the yard when I brought it home used the forks to load all of my implements on it to keep them off of the ground and that is where it sits, I just haven't had time to do anything else and now I have a pinched sciatic nerve and I can barley walk. Man I hope that nerve is better soon I tried to drive the tractor the other day and just using the clutch was hard.

Nice looking trailer and good price. It wasn't evident form the description, is that 18' plus a 2' dovetail?
I guess it is 5" channel construction. If they were closer I would look at one.
But the 7.5 K axles (which I don't really need) one (18+2) I found with 6" construction at $3300 (talked the dealer down a hundred) doesn't seem like a bad buy either. Still can't come to terms of pulling the x-tra 500 lbs weight (compared to 5k axles 5" version) or I would have already picked it up.

I had a 20 + 2 foot bumper pull deck over that I hauled my 4047 on when I first got it. It had 7500 pound axles.
With my 6' hog on it, the tail wheel was barely off the back of the trailer.
I now have a 25' gooseneck that works good, but will step up to a 30' for hauling tractor and a couple implements to different places.
A bumper pull with bigger that 6k axles is at limit with a 12k weight distributing hitch.
My deck over scaled at 4200 pounds.
Here is a pic or the my old deckover

I just thought of tow-capacities for my truck ...

My bumper pull rating is 12,500,
5th wheel/GN rating is 14,000.

So, I couldn't handle a 14,000 gvwr bumper-pull trailer anyhow. Looks like the only trucks that are rated for 14k bumper tow are duallies. Just something to think about... why get a 14k conventional trailer if your truck isn't rated for it anyhow?

With a double 6k axle trailer, you are at 13200 with the 10% tongue weight
I have hauled just my tractor on my 18' car trailer.
That is over limit for the trailer because my rear tires are filled adding 1200 pounds
