I'm agreeing on this. The neoprene was cheap and available so it was a starting point.

There are thousands of different kind of belting . Yes finding a 1/8" thick is not a problem . Most rubber Belts are cheaper than plain Sheet rubber and are much stronger . I could answer any belting Questions anyone has just let me know . Another source is a farmer replacing his round baler belts .

I used an old tire. I cut it so it would be as long as possible, then mounted it with some bolts so the curve of the tire catches all debris. It works great!!!

And chain skirts are big dollars!
Chains are definitely safe though and I do have chains on the rear of this one.

I have a few brush hogs which do not have the original shields on the front. To replace them can be a bit pricey for some.
I have purchased a roll of 1/8 inch thick solid neoprene (10ft X 12 inch) should be able to get 4 to 6 out of the roll depending on size. I'm going to try this out and see how it works out.

What do you use to make new shields from?

Obviously chains are the best
