On the collage football front; I have zero issue with players getting payed, and I don't really mind the transfer portal; but it needs reworked. Maybe have a "per diem" kinda structure with starters capped at $10,000 per game, going up $5000 per year at that school, and anyone who doesn't get in the game gets 50%? This would create a situation where players can get out of a bad situation team wise, but they have an incentive to stay. So, that freshman thinking about transferring, see ok, I made $5 or $10k per game this year, and if I stay, that will $7.5 or $15k per game if I stay. Bowl games and play off games, maybe you up the per game pay. I Hate the idea of guys sitting out of bowl games, comfrence championships, ect. So, a good player, 1 year on team but not in many games, 3 years active; might get $65k his first year, $195k 2nd, $260 his 3rd, $325k his senior, with the potential to pick up another $65 to $260k between conf champs and bowl games. So, a good player, on a good team (not necessarily a national championship kinda team), might have a collage career earning of around $1m. This theortical player, as a Junior, looking at maybe a 5th round draft pick, can make a decision, a possible around $3-4 m in the NFL. with a very real potential to get cut in pre season, and all that, or stay for a senior season at $325k that is more safe. I think the sport benefits, the players (most really do Need the money) benefit, the fans benefit, and we keep 80% of the loyalty, while allowing players to get out of bad coaching situations.
