I am cleaning up the hood to the 820 and was wondering if the foam on the inside is a critical piece. I know its there for a reason, but should I replace it while im here?

JD thought it was needed. Looks like it might keep the hood from rubbing the radiator.

I would replace it - can't hurt. Leaving it off might hurt.

Yeah I agree with bcp. Not exactly sure what the purpose is, but they didn't just decide to throw in some foam rubber when they were building. It serves a legitimate purpose.

Thanks. I ran to town and on the way out stopped at an autozone.

Te foam is supposed to form a seal around the radiator. It makes the fan draw air through the side screens so it is filtered and helps keep debris from clogging radiator fins.

Ditto what jd110 stated. Foam does similar as fan shroud

There should also be a block of foam on top of the hydraulic oil cooler, that is to the right of the radiator
