what length PTO Shaft?

Okay, It's me again with another dumb question! What length should the PTO Shaft be to hook up a John Deere 550 Tiller To a John Deere 855 Tractor...or how do I measure for one? I finally got up nerve enough to make the three point hook-up... Next comes the PTO Shaft...... HELP, HELP, Help!

Be sure to check the input shaft on your tiller. I have a King Kutter tiller, and the input shaft on the gear box is splined, plus it uses a slip clutch. Most likely your JD tiller is set up the same but check it to see. If it is, then I would assume you will need a PTO shaft with a slip clutch as well. I am pretty sure that Tractor Supply has a complete PTO shaft already made up, and it's very likely long enough to fit your set up. In fact, if you get one like that, you may wind up having to cut it down, in which case, you should also watch some of the videos on youtube on how to do that correctly.
