What is it?

I thought there was a sticky 'what is it' ongoing thread. but I could not find it.

So, here it is - found in the woods. It appears to be made to accommodate a strap, and is slighty curved. about 12 inches long. It also has an attachment to hang 'something' on. My first thought was something to hang a bucket for collecting maple syrup, but I have never seen one of this type.

So what is it?

Internal reinforcement for part of a draft animal harness?

The metal part of a set of hames, the wooden part has rotted away. Have to be an old person to know what they are. Type the word hames in google and look for a wooden set and along the curved outside portion is the metal parts that is the attachment points.

Makes perfect sense - I have several 'hames' wooden pieces I found in a shed.
