2538 temp gauge

Have a 2016 2538 hst. Was bushhogging today and engine temp gauge quit working. Since I was bushhoggin
I thought the wire was probably pulled from the gauge. Back to the barn and let it cool off. Appears the gauge
is on right side of motor, but wire was still connected. However
did seem to be plenty of wire hanging on side of the motor. I had never noticed that much wire going to the
temp gauge before. So don't know if it got caught on something, but it was still attached to the gauge.
Unplugged wire from the gauge and reattached (plug in connectors, which didn't seem to be damaged) but didn't
have time to see if unplugging and replugging fixed it.
If that doesn't work what troubleshooting to try? Is the temp gauge only on a separate fuse?
Also, is the gauge a generic one so that a replacement can be found easily? What is proper procedure for replacing it?
Anyone have specs or numbers for a replacement? Any advice appreciated.

2538/2638 wiring Diagram and 3rd function

Hi, Thanks for reading my post. Couple of questions... 1. I'm installing a light bar on the roll over cage on my 2638 tractor and it would help if I had a wiring diagram of the tractor. Can anyone help out ? 2. I'd like to add a grapple which requires a 3rd function. Any recommendations...

This thread has a wiring diagram in it. Looks like if it is the temperature gauge it is part of the dashboard assembly.

I may be reading the wiring diagram wrong, but to me it looks like the temp gauge is on a separate fuse. Even if it's not, it won't hurt to check your fuse box just in case.

If the wire to the sensor is "loose" as you describe it, it might also be worth while to back track from the sensor all the way back to the gauge for a broken wire, or other connector that might be suspect.

Thanks duffer for the input. Checking fuses and following the wire to the gauge (I incorrectly called the sensor the gauge in original post) is exactly my troubleshooting strategy when I can get time to do it. Holiday weekend and kids coming in will probably hinder my efforts till Monday though. If it's just a broken wire (could I be so lucky?) I suppose I could simply splice them together with the appropriate fastener, or is there some reason that wouldn't work? Will report back.
