Amateur radio aka "Ham" radio. I got my general license in January and am (mostly) using equipment I inherited from my dad when he passed nearly 20 years ago. It had been boxed up all that time.

Wife and I had a garage/yard sale. Not sure exactly what the temperature got to but the forcast was for 93. The breeze quit about 2 or 3pm then it got pretty sticky. We got rid of some "stuff" and made a few bucks. After packing up the outside items, I had to feed the horses and clean up around the barn (we let our spoiled horses hang in the barn during the heat of day if they please). In a few minutes we are going to hit the Jacuzzi for a much needed soak.

Awesome, out of all of the things I have got into in my 50 years, Ham Radio was never one of them. I know more about rocket science then Ham Radio. how fantastic that you have your Dad's old gear, probably will last forever too. My Dad left me his Genes, a few pair of old Jeans and an Aunt Jean and his wisdom, which I cherish the most.

Today I did a repair on a friend's Tecumseh carburetor. The engine it was on powered a garden tractor used for lawn mowing in the summer and snow blowing in the winter and over the course of a dozen years or so the throttle shaft wore out so I reamed the shaft hole slightly oversize to .250 and made a new throttle shaft from drill rod to replace the original one. (I like using drill rod for this because of the factory tolerance of +/- .0005 on diameter and surface finish of 15 RMS.) The owner couldn't source a replacement shaft (and he did ask the right people who would know where to go, if anyone did) but he could get a new carb for about $400.00. Yikes!

Made up some temporary jumpers and jumpered out a 4kv buss in a switchyard so the substation guys could change out a breaker, worked on a delta transformer bank due to a possible voltage problem, and the list just keeps going, some weeks it's live line transmission work others like today mostly distribution work, but it's all good.

I spent about 3 hours on the LX266 riding mower mowing the yard, the entry, the fire road, and the "North" trail. I also used the toro push mower for the tight spots.

There were just WAY TOO many dandelions...

When I finished that I did some bush hogging also.

I will do the weed-whacking later this week...

Be well,
David

Pulled/pushed my old wheelhorse mower out of the shed, where it has been buried under junk for the last 10+ yrs. Got it in the barn and removed the non working engine. The engine seized up sometime around 1998. I had it rebuilt, but it stopped running again about a week later (I was never charged for the rebuild). Since I had a rear finish mower for my tractor, I never had it fixed again. Lately I have been looking at replacement engines, and thought I'd try to find a new engine that will work in it. I found one, but the hood might have to be modified to get it to fit. 212h.jpg212ha.jpg212hb.jpg

Yesterday evening I need to clear some cobwebs from my mind so I used the FS90 with Brush Blade and worked on clearing sweet gums and "Virginia stink trees" from my gate area and the fire road. Piled them all into the back of my little snowplow truck and dumped them on the next burn pile. I managed to get a couple loads, and successfully cleared the cobwebs in the process.

Be well all,
David

Took the steepness out of the hill by the driveway. Started only being able to go up and down it with the box blade and finished it off going across it with the land plane. Now I can safely mow it.

Set the JD261 to highest cut level to make it behave like a bush hog. Cut the pasture area down to 6-inch high. We have had no real rain for about a month. After the livestock hits the pasture, it's all twigs and throns. Cutting this mess down should help the pasture rebound some.

Great machine. I'm not aware of an oil cooled engine but it makes a lot of sense. How much oil does it hold and how do you like it?

Hi all

Took delivery today of my new Wallenstein BX62 chipper :)
Have been just putting though light Kurrajong branches, Have yet to try some hardwood. I'm sure some ironbark will slow it down a bit :) So far it really does suck the branches in and does 4 inch ones with ease.

Once again in need of 'Tood adjustment and clearing of mental cobwebs I spent a few hours yesterday morning using the push mower and LX266 riding Lawn mower to mow most of the "yard" (both upper and lower), the gate area, the former pasture fence outer side, and the fire road.

Everything except the upper yard I had skipped the last time, so some of the weedage was heavy.

Today I'm going back to cleaning up slash and building a burn pile for a bonfire party. Mostly to keep the mental cobwebs at bay...

Be well all,
David

I have one much like yours it is a 1996 if I remember right , with a twin onan eng. which I have been useing every summer . The only thing done to it is oil , filters , plugs , and new plug wires . The carb needs some work now as I have had to put some carb cleaner in it a couple times this summer to keep it going. This new gas is a pain even though it may not have caused the problem I am now having .

SWEET.

I too have just gotten a chipper, it's a MTD, but the sweet thing is, the engine can be disconnected and swung out of the way. Now to see if a PTO drive could be made to attach. :)

Yesterday I fired up the MS290 20" FarmBoss and took out a (for me) scary dead Mimosa Folia tree and dropped it in two cuts right where I wanted it even with a slope and a stiff breeze.

The before is during this last winter, the circles try o point out the trees I cut.

I dropped a couple small dogwoods, the Mimosa, a sweet gum by the pond that the top came off last winter and looked terrible on the skyline, and a crepe myrtle infested with a pawlonia (I despise those trees). One of the dogwoods is outside the frame.

I did fire up the tractor to lift the largest chunk and hold it steady while cutting it up.

I am so very sore today from limbing with my big saw...

Be well all,
David
