What did you do on or to your LS Tractor today?

Sometimes having a smaller tractor around is a blessing. I need to dig a small shallow trench ~250 to bury some low volt wire. My tractor and backhoe is a bit big, and due to its size, wont fit in a portion of the area needed. I get to hand dig. Nice duo!

The pain of using a shovel when you've got a backhoe nearby; that must have been a real kick. 🤣

I rented this "ground saw" for maybe $150 from home depot, it cuts a 2" wide trench anywhere from 0-13 inches deep. It did 150 feet at max depth in about 10 minutes, it was amazing.

So what I've been using mine for mostly this summer is grading the gravel road with the land plane, and watering young trees. We've gone into a bad drought over the last 6 weeks and some young and expensive trees I planted were struggling. A water hose won't reach easily, so what I do is I fill the bucket on the tractor up about 2/3rds with water, then I drive up to the trees and gently dump water on them. If I'm careful I can water several trees thoroughly without leaving the seat. Works great.

There's a million uses for a compact tractor.

Then again, on my first digging experience with it, I kinda wished it was bigger. It took me over an hour and several re-positionings to get those two little stumps out. It's very easy to pull the whole machine toward the hoe, even with it fully off its wheels, supported by the stabilizers and the bucket. On my last repositioning, I had an idea; I turned a third stump into a traitor against its brethren. Doing this kept the machine from getting pulled toward the work:

Ahhhh, read your owners manual ---- it SPECIFICALLY states to NOT lift the tractor / wheels off the ground when digging. Definitely puts stress in parts that are not supposed to be stressed to that point.

Plus, setting the parking brake, with 4wd engaged, and the tires on the ground, will put more resistance to pulling yourself backwards.

Another easy modification you can do is to bolt "feet" onto the stabilizer pads. Simple 2"+ angle iron bolted perpendicular to the "dig", will amaze you! Really, really, helps keeping the tractor in place.

Here is a link to a discussion on here about them.

Perish the thought!

Since this is a frame (rather than 3-point) mounted hoe, I would not have expected that. Some years ago, I had a landscaper with a comparable sized (but much older) Kubota backhoe and he consistently lifted it off the wheels to dig.

Ooh! I like the angle-iron or U-channel idea! I think we even have some angle-iron laying around.

Thanks!

Just because a "pro" does something does not make it right... Now a dedicated TLB is built a lot heavier than a CUT.
