I’m all about having a beater
For daily running around too. My 1999Diesel E300 has 287k miles, known as “Old Smokey” I joke that it’s just getting broken in. I’ve driven several cars up to the point of scrapping them.
It's harder for me anyway to scrap cars I've named over the years so I try not to name my beaters lol.

Wife says we have to have one car that's acceptable to drive to weddings and funerals. Then I can have whatever I want. :ROFLMAO:

So we always have one car that's nice and clean and safe and functional... and a 2003 Suburban, a 2013 Impala with 190K and rusty floorboards, and a 2000 Sable for backup! :ROFLMAO:

Good choice, I'd drive a 2003 Suburban to a wedding or funeral any day too.

They could put me in the back of it on the way to my funeral. 🙃

That one actually isn't too bad. We picked it up out in Oklahoma about 4 years ago when our kid was living out there. Some minor rust. A LOT of scratches and dings. Interior dashboard is cracking, headliner sagging, but clean. 197K miles. Comfortable as heck. Tight steering. Rides great!

Our current "good" car is a 2020 Outback Limited. Very nice car. Happy wife happy life. (y)

Some seat covers for my Rolls Royce :). The old ones from Costco were trashed.

PS. It’s an 87 Brat

Problem is, it's NEVER paid off. You fail to pay the real estate taxes, you loose the dwelling and land to the county and they auction it off and if they garner less than what you owe (if you owe anything), they come after you for the difference.

Under current tax laws, it's never paid off. You just 'rent' it.

Govermnet entities always get their 'pound of flesh', no matter what. My personal opinion on that is it's BS but it is what it is. I don't think that anyone over the age of 65 should have to pay RE taxes and especially school operating taxes as no one I know of over 65, has school age kids.

Better to rent than own in many cases. renters don't pay RE taxes and most have school age kids as well. Having said that I do incorporate the RE tax burden in the monthly rent, so they do but indirectly and with 4 rental properties that tax burden is quite large. Least 3 of the 4 are paid off and the 4th one is close.

Remember, they're never paid off. ;)

I think the property taxes in my county are very reasonable and are actually used for things that I can see: fire district, roads, and yes local schools. When my kids were in school, older people paid for them and I’m ok with paying for the next generation, provided that the cost is reasonable, and in my case it is.

If you are happy with paying them, all that counts. Up here the school board especially squanders the tax money as well as the road board does and always have.

Least the local school board got their feathers trimmed last election. They wanted an additional millage on the ballots for whatever and it got voted down solidly. People around here are tired of paying taxes and getting little return from it. Taxiation without representation is alive and well here so they think at least, at least until their millage got hammered that is. Lot of folks around here that are up against it. My wife is constantly donatying to the local food pantry and is always accepted with gratitude.
