From looking at the mounting of the Johnny bucket I'd venture a guess that with any load the back tires will be spinning most of the time.:)

I guess that is why they also sell rear wheel weights...

How about a good older classic tractor like an 8N or Farmall ?
3 acres seems a bit much to me for a garden tractor to cut.

Yes, they had to develop these terms to confuse us:

LT- Lawn Tractor
GT- Garden Tractor
SCUT- Sub-Compact Utility Tractor
CUT- Compact Utility Tractor

I have heard here a lot of the dealers have sold out their inventories on Cub Cadet 2500 models for the year and Cub isn't producing any more until the '07's. I guess they build the tractors in the winter and snow blowers during the summer. Sometimes a good dealer can better direct you to what will be best for your needs without trying to push something on you that is too much or too expensive.

How about using a row crop cultivator to break up the clay soil clods.

Huh?

I knock out about an acre and hour with a GT + 60" deck. I would be willing to bet I can cut 3 acres more efficiently on that than on an 8n pulling a RFM given the typical obstacles one might find in a yard.

To the OP: You might wish to look at the 3000 series Cubs with available hydraulics. Then you can go with either a JB or a full FEL setup depending on what you want to spend. Scour the papers for used GTs also, an old CC or 400 series Deere shouldn't be too difficult to find with many goodies in the $4000 price range.

I have been to all the major dealers in my area CC, JD, Kubota and they all say that I need a compact tractor to do any type land work. We have gumbo land etc.
Then then push their 9000$ + tractors. Out of my budget.
I am looking used. I looked at a 95 JD 455 (2900$ with no repairs done) and went back two days later and it was gone. I also have a shot at a 85 (?) kubota B7200 with a 5' belly mower. They want 4500$.

I was really set on the CC2554, there will be one at the local dealer next week but they advise against it.
