It's been raining hard every other week here. Generator has been getting a workout. Power seems to go off every time the wind blows.

The right of way crew for the electric co op marked the trees and brush for trimming months ago but never came back to trim.

Glad I have a generator that pretty much runs my whole house.

Hmmm........ wonder if that's where our rain goes. As usual - dry as a popcorn fart here.

Sorry to hear about your power problems.

We had the same problem here until about 4 months ago. The power company took our power down for about 10 hours one day to rebuild the substation and rewire the lines. Since then for the few times the power has gone off, it has been for a very short time period as now it automatically reroutes itself. And we set a record rainfall for June and July was much wetter than normal. Sure glad they fixed the power before that.

Nah, not that wet... This is my dock that was built 6 feet above water and extends 25 feet into my lake.....The two posts are the top of my ladder going into the water.....

I can't imagine being in FL without power. I was in FL a loooooong time ago as a youngster. Only memories are oppressive humidity and it rained almost every evening. Orlando, FL. 1944-45.

phiferpharm - - looking on the bright side. Your lake is sure full AND the dock must be built & anchored well - - it hasn't raised up and floated away.

They say we're 12 inches above for the year here in central Va. That tropical storm the end of May caused more flooding and damage than Isabel in 2003. THEN at the end of July, we got another 5 inches or so that night. Didn't overflow the creek at our place, but it did about 3 neighbors down where our trails go. Cannot get the tractor down for a few days, as it continues to rain a bit. The trails were due for mowing the other day when I mowed on our own property, but I sheared the shear bolt on the bush hog and didn't put a new bolt back in right away to do the rest. Now gotta wait.

One gets used to it. I lived in quite a few houses without AC while in central FLA. My grandparents had central AC in a house they built when I was about 13. They were the first relatives that did not have fans and window AC. Before Orlando was paved over, the afternoon thunderstorms would roll in like clock work and cool things down. Course the humidity would jump up but that would usually go away, sorta, and with the lower temperature, it would be "cool." One gets used to it. When I moved to NC I was freezing for about three winters. Eventually, I got used to the cold.

In central NC we have been getting huge amounts of rain. Before we left to go on vacation in late June it was kinda dry but watching the weather back home we could see we were getting quite a bit of rain. This week has been unreal. HEAVY rain every single day. Rain you would get in a hurricane. Many areas have gotten seven inches of rain over the last seven days. Most of it has come down in very heavy down pours. The creek near us was over it's banks this week which I have not seen since the last hurricane. Places in town flooded that I have never seen flooded. We have had flash flood warnings I would guess almost every day this past week. The rain is supposed to be gone today but it looks like it will rain any minute. :(

Dan

The twenty two years I lived in Alaska - most was in Anchorage. But I did spend a year in Ketchikan and Petersburg and Glennallen. Anchorage has Elmendorf AFB and Fort Richardson Army base.

I would feel so sorry for the military families that came from being stationed somewhere in Florida, Louisiana or other spots in the deep south. That first winter in Alaska was a real shock for them.

We would tell them that they were very fortunate - they could have been stationed at Eielson AFB or Fort Wainwright Army base - both of these being in Fairbanks.

For those who have never been or lived in Alaska - there are favorable comparisons in the lower 48.

Anchorage is located on Cook Inlet - its weather is very similar to Seattle but Anchorage will get a foot or so of snow in the winter.

Fairbanks is very much an interior city - its weather compares favorably with Minot, North Dakota. Except it can reach -50F in the winter and I've seen +108F in the summer.

There are two things that help make Alaska so great - its so darn big and there are so very few roads. Look at a map of Kansas - it will show the major roads Look at a map of Alaska - it will show the ONLY roads.
