They also get sucked into "interest only" loans.......until the balloon payment hits or the interest is now due. Lots of builders use gimics to sell homes, then 2 years later it's foreclosed on or on the market for a ridiculous price. And since "new" buyers can buy a new home for "no money down", why buy used and torn up? Viscious circle.........
