I've seen much written about the quality (or lack thereof) of Walmart's Super Tech line of lubricants. And, many comments about the source (actual manufacturer/distributor) of these products.
A segment of the public believes that paying more for lubricants naturally means the lubricants are better/superior to lower priced ones. I tend to be a bit more open-minded and look for bargains where I find them. Rant=On (However, if they were giving away Union/Pure products, I wouldn't accept them. Just a long held bias that goes back to a summer day, a motor cycle and a Pure Oil station attendant's refusal to get up from his chair and pump a little gas! THAT was 50+ years ago and long before self-service pumps, by the way. I haven't been back. Obviously, open-mindedness has its limits!) Rant=Off
Today, by accident, I discovered proof that some of the Super Tech grease products come from Warren Distribution.
I was looking for chassis grease for my tractor a few days ago and discovered that Walmart offers their Super Tech Multiduty Grease (Red, lithium, EP, GC-LB rated) in case lots of 10 tubes. The price per tube is less than HALF the individual tube price. What's more, the case price was $17.50 and they had just two cases left in stock. Uh, wait a minute - I am looking for two cases, they have just two left in stock and the total cost is exactly $35.00 which just happens to be the exact total to qualify for free shipping and is less than half of the single tube price? What else could I do but order them based on that serendipity overload?
Turns out the two remaining cases were in different warehouses. The case that I received today came from Indiana. I opened it and verified the GC-LB rating which WM seems to think is a big secret, by the way. Well, they must because it is difficult to get them to list any NLGI classification for it other than Grade 2. But, there is a You Tube video (barely) showing the GC-LB rating on the tube.
As I was about to put the grease away, I noticed what looked like a packing list on the retail box. An image of that page appears below. As you can see, Warren shipped a total of three cases of grease to the Plainfield, IN Dist Center in January - Two cases of Super Tech Multiduty Grease and one case of Super Tech Moly. (In keeping with the current climate in the DC swamp, a few things specific to WM, Warren and the order have been redacted. Somebody call Adam Schiff!)
So, both greases currently come from Warren Distribution. That could change depending on a number of factors. However, this is the first documented proof I have seen on the Warren connection to Walmart. I thought some of you might find it useful.
There is zero stock on the cases of grease as of February 7, 2017.
