Very Large Turf Roller

Wish I had a picture, but I was driving.

Yesterday, while driving somewhere, we came upon a very large tractor with a very large turf roller driving down the road in front of us. The diameter of the rollers looked to be about 12' wide by about 30" in diameter. There were 3 rollers. One in the center supported by wheels for roading, and one on each side, folded up for transport. It took up the entire road, both lanes, and hung over both shoulders a bit.

We have some turf farms in the area, yet I'd never seen a roller like this. I'm just assuming it's a roller for the turf farms. I'd have stopped to take a picture, but it turned off onto a side road as soon as we came upon it, and there was traffic behind us.

Looking around, I guess it's called a land roller. It was similar to this, but red, and the side rollers were more upright. Anyhow, I thought it was interesting.

I'll bet it was this or something very similar in a 34' width.

More and more cash crop farmers are rolling their soy beans, small grains, legumes, etc. this help push the smaller rocks into the ground and also flattens clumps which aides in combining the crops without damaging the cutter head. I believe they 85 foot and possibly larger rollers today.

this would be a normal roller for smoothing and breaking clods.

a roller for a turf farm would be water filled, narrower and at least 5-6 feet in diameter for greater weight per square inch.
