I have 300 acres in upstate South Carolina (150 open and mostly flat/150 wooded) and I'm looking for a simple maintenance piece of equipment for general use around the property...i.e., cutting grass, light brush cutting, light tilling, etc. I've viewed a few videos on the Ventrac and the Steiner lines of equipment, and can appreciate them for their size and ease of use...at least, as advertised by the manufacturers.

Firstly, I'd like to ask what class of machine do these units fall under? And secondly, does anyone here (that might have any knowledge of or experience with) have an opinion or any useful information that might help me in my decision as to the type or brand of equipment that I might purchase in the near future.

Thanks in advance!

Respectfully,

They are good machines, but they have their limits. I almost got one but the brush cutting is very limited. Check that out and compare to your needs before you buy. Ed

I traded my garden tractor for a 4500 diesel for the ease of going to different implements. I can go from mower to blower in less that 2 minutes without rushing. All machines have their limitations. This is my 2nd working machine as my Massey is for fun. I would call it a estate machine.

We have a hundred acres and I would be very frustrated if I had only the Steiner. It has it's place for sure, but too often you need, power, ground clearance, lifting capacity and height, all things the Steiner does not have.

Steiner/Ventrac have equal size wheels. Great for STABILITY.

'Traditional' tractors are focused on PULLING heavy loads. Large rear wheels provide great mechanical advantage for PULLING. Small front wheels paired with large rear wheels are inimical to stability.

In my opinion Steiner/Ventracs do not fit in traditional tractor categories. They are their own category.

I now see you already have one tractor, an NX6010. You should have called attention to this in your opening post.

Certainly a germane fact relative to your inquiry.

If there is a Ventrac Dealer around - see if they will bring one and the attachments you would want for a demo.
I love my 4231 Liquid Cooled Gas and it impresses everyone who sees it work. Ventrac is not inexpensive, but it is not cheaply built either. Every machine has it's limitations, but I would not trade my Ventrac for any other machine I can think of.
It is stable on uneven ground and will do much more than anyone would think such a compact machine could do!

Have you made a decision on your purchase? I am in a similar situation in Georgia and am also considering Ventrac.

I would not be without a Ventrac ever again if I have anything to do about it. They are built like Tanks. A tad expensive but you get your moneys worth. I am now looking to put a grammer air ride seat in this spring.
