Used impliments and FB Market

Two friends are shopping on FB Marketplace and have recently seen items pulled and relisted not far away. Sparing the details of each I guessed that some listings might be from exes or soon to be exes trying to sell out from under each other.

One Dave drove 3 hrs with cash to an address that didn't exist, backed up by a mail carrier spotted on the block. The item reappeared 30 mi away within two days.

I think this red paint is not regional. Wander why it is always red.
At least this guy asks only $300 for his paint job

You know 20% of the red probably will stick, and then we end up with over spray, rust, red, and probably some Ford blue, alone with painted on bolts/bearings/tires

Reminds me of our experience with the Earl Scheib $99 paint job.

In high school, one of my buddies got his car egged. He wanted a new paint job anyway, so we dropped it off at Earl Schieb's for the $99 special.

Picked up the car two days later. . .

They painted right over the top of the dried eggs!

There was another Earl Schieb wanna be in Portland in the '60's - they had one ad where they actually said "you'll probably get a nicer job if you WASH your car before bringing it in

Fortunately for me, I already had several knowledgeable friends, including a body/fender man (I went to school with his kid) So I didn't even need to wash my '55 Chevy 2dr hardtop before I got it painted :giggle: ... Steve

There are lots of used agricultural implement for sale around here. As long as your tractor is 400+ Hp and you own, at least, 1500+ acres of wheat or rape(Canola).

Otherwise - your choices - - build it yourself OR buy it brand new.

Fourteen years ago I sold my smaller Land Pride rear blade. Advertised in the local newspaper. The first day - I got five calls, wanting to buy. Sold it for 3/4 of the new price.

Wish I would have had half a dozen rear blades to sell.

I have two implements that are seldom used. Disk harrow, box blade. But we all know how that goes. The day after a sales - you find a real use for the implement.

Southern and Middle Georgia, down into north FLa and what we call LA (lower Alabama, the FLa panhandle west of Tallahassee), lots of 8/9/10/12 ft stuff that is too small for real farming, but too big for homeowners. You might find an 8ft disk for $400; but you'll have a heck of a time finding a 5/6ft disk for less than $600.

Why is it always the red paint. Not even that familiar with this spreader, but why would you paint the drive chain and sprockets? Do you think they de-greased it first? I almost hope they painted over the grease, cause otherwise that chain is going to be a pain. Atleast if it was greasy when painted, it should free up, and flake off

I just read this for the first time. I know they are rather outdated but $1200 for a very used disc harrow? Maybe it's time to sell mine.

The box blade actually seemed reasonably priced.

This is more my style for a rebuild.

Probably worth $200 before they painted it.

I do understand a quick paint job, and I don't even blame them for not wire wheeling, ect; but 1; use a peice of card board to minize over spray on the galv hopper, and 2; you intentionally went to afford to paint the chain and sprocket? Why.

It does look good, but I don't blame anyone for not painting the bottom plows and that kinda stuff. With ground engaging impliments, I don't hold rust against them. I just feel like you can spend 2 minutes and use a cardboard spray shield or a trash bag over tires, simple kinda stuff. I often wonder if some of these people even know what an item is used for that they are selling, or understand how it works?

Thanks, it turned out nice, disassembled, sandblasted, painted, assembled and then new decals. The moldboards, shins and shares are painted because I won't be in the dirt again. I have other plows for that.

It's the old '5 gallon finish'. People for some ungodly reason think a coat of cheap rattle can paint on everything makes a shot, worn out item good again.

Years ago I was looking at JD 4020 Diesels for the heck of it and just about everyone I looked at had the '5 gallon finish' applied right over the old, crusted on grease that was never removed.

You won't find that on my tractors as the excess spuged out grease gets removed after greasing. I have a bad habit pf brushing up against grease and getting it on my clothes and that don't make the wife overly happy so it gets removed after greasing.

Nothing better than paint applied over grease to increase the sale value....
