Hi. Welcome.

A tractor with that few hours are barely broke in. If the trans/hydraulic filter is gray that indicates it did not get its 50hr service. Look at the fluids and see if clean or darkening. Any signs of abuse like bent FEL arms or boom on backhoe.
Leaks would be uncommon with that few hours. If clean might not hurt to ask the bottom price he/she will take.

I bought my 03 BX2200 used with 1187hrs on it with FEL, 60" MMM, rear blade and 60" tiller for $7,300.
Used machines especially Kubota's are getting top prices now.

Several comments

The plastic Hydro Fan underneath is susceptible to damage and always verify it is in place and not missing blades.

Air Filter Bracket is notorious for cracking... not a big deal... just something to be aware.

Under belly is somewhat exposed and most of us have added skid plates... especially if going into the woods.

The BX23 is really an amazingly rugged and capable TLB... done a lot of work with mine and have 320 hours.

New I paid $14,900 out the door without mower...

The price does seem to be higher than I would expect...

thanks for the replies, im going taking a 3 hr drive tomorrow to take a look at it. ill keep an eye out for fluids and scope out the underbelly of the unit. one thing im kind of confused on is why the rear tires appear to be turf tires and the fronts are industrial, minor but just a question. Hopefully everything checks out ok and i can talk him down a bit and have my first tractor.:)

During the last eleven years was the tractor stored inside or outside? $2,000/$3,000 difference in what you should pay.

Eleven years outside will have deteriorated wiring insulation, hydraulic lines, tires, instruments and paint.

Industry surveys indicate small residential tractors operate 80 hours per year.

Tractor prices are most negotiable when there is snow on the ground.

Turf and Industrial might be possible to match the rolling circumference of the factory tires but you should research the original size and circumference of both to make sure they are a perfect match otherwise the transmission could have sustained damage from the use of two different sized tires.
I suspect that the R4 were put on to handle a heavier load on the front but If the sizes don't match the original R4 or Turf exactly (within 5% is allowable) then I would shy away from that tractor. I think the price is very high for a 11 year old tractor. I think he is asking original purchase price of the tractor.

tractor was always stored indoors, and from speaking with the man on the phone he seemed pretty firm on the price. Hopefully cash will talk and i can get him down a bit. But ive been looking for this tractor for quite sometime and these seem hard to come by here in the ohio area

Consider if NEW BX25, with a warranty, evolved improvements and THAT NEW CAR SMELL, might be net cheaper in total costs than this rather high priced eleven year old BX23.

Inside storage is GOOD.

The original BX23 front tires were discontinued from Kubota...

I had to go with BX24 tires and rims... the 24 uses a bigger rim and a lower profile tire so the circumference is the same...

I actually ended up buying a set of BX24 front and rears on new rims through whole goods for less then I could buy just the tires...

If I had to choose... the BX23 would be the last to go... I just like it that much... the BX24 had plastic floor and fenders that did not work out so well... the BX25D seems to have all the bugs worked out...

Dad always said cash is king...

Good luck.

Keep the info coming guys lol love this forum for all the info. From what I've been reading the bx23 was the sweet spot for Kubota in the bx line of tlb hopefully this is a good one too

Well... there are few more quirks...

Don't get your instrument panel/light switches wet... they are not water proof and members have reported the flashers or other lights on after hosing down that area... I never get the hose anywhere near it and the few times it had to be outside overnight, I put a cover over that area.

Another is the fuel gauge may be hit or miss... some have reported rust from the sending unit plugging filters.

The transmission selector on the right can get packed with mud so much so you won't be able to move it OR the sensor is impeded.

The treadle pedal has to be in the middle or neutral position for safety interlock to let the starter work...

My brother used my tractor and though something bad had happened... it was just the interlock was not in the right position.

The two things I added are a tooth bar for digging with the FEL and the skid plates...

I do not believe there is any discontinued tractor tire size which cannot be found on eBay.

Really rare sizes may not be cheap but almost every size is available.

I bought one of the first BX22's available in my area in 2002. I owned it for 2 years and as soon as the BX23 was available I traded for one and still own it. It is an amazing little tractor and to be quite honest, I wouldn't trade for a BX24 or a new BX25. I guess it just fits me. It has been trouble free and has done everything I have asked it to do. I did add a tooth bar and the under amour. I also put on upgraded seat. I can't imagine living were I do without it any longer. It is an amazing little machine. In 2004 when they were announced, they listed for about $16,500 and you could and I did buy one for around $15,000. So is $12,500 too high. Maybe. Probably. But people who own these are pretty proud of them and rightfully so. And the only time you can buy one is when they are for sale. And they are rare to find. The two different tire types I would question. Possibly one got ruined and the cheapest way to remedy it, was to buy two turf tires. But I would ask about it. With Kubota's zero percent financing it may make more sense to buy new. I guess that is a question only you can answer. But I'm not trading my 23 off. Good luck.

Well got my mind made up that If everything checks out ok I'll prob purchase it local dealer has bx25 priced at $17700 with 0% financing but that extra cost is hard to mustard up plus tax and the fact that it will prob depreciate when I take it off the lot so I'll prob settle for this one barring anything wrong thanks for all your guys comments

I sold my Kubota B3300SU tractor loader package, 406 engine hours, for $13,000 in January 2014 to the first prospect that visited. It was always stored in a humidity controlled garage.

I purchased it new in February 2012 for $17,200. The way I figure it my depreciation cost was $10 per operating hour. Cheap entertainment and a good reason to buy a new tractor every two to three years.

(Yes, I had fuel costs, service costs and one $250 KTAC insurance deductible on a FEL repair but that is a wash, new or used.)

$10 per hour depreciation is cheap fun. And, I enjoyed THAT NEW CAR SMELL.

I do not know Ohio, but in Florida tractors and other ag and forestry equipment are sales tax exempt. Check tax status in Ohio.

$17,200 new - $12,500 used = $4,700 / 940 hours = $5.00 per hour difference, new/used.

I would buy new. Or negotiate the used price to $10,000.

You will drive 240 miles round trip, presumably pulling a trailer. That will cost you at least $240 for the trip without valuing six hours of your time.

OP -
Did you check out Barlows?

Barlows has several BX25's on their used web page and also give a great bang for the buck on their new tractors.
And they ship for a very reasonable price.
I'm surprised John Thomas hasn't swung by this page yet.

The BX23 Front is rather unique.

18x8.50-8

The later models use 18x8.50-10

When I trashed one of my fronts I was able to buy a complete set of BX24 Tires and Rims... front and back for $296 and I did...

Dealer said the new size holds up better for loader work and so far it has.

I am fortunate to have a 2660 which I bought new and have had great service with. Two years ago I ran across a fellow who was leaving the area...in a hurry and had a BX23 with 250 hrs on it. I bought it for $3,500. I should blush, eh? While the 2660 has been great, it seems kinda high strung compared to the 23. I guess the high rpm' share where the 2660 gets it's 26hp. The 23 is just quieter, smoother and really capable.

There are updated more waterproof / marine type switches for the dash now, have one on the headlights and it helps.
