Use 3rd Function for Rear Hydraulic Purposes?

MX6000 with a 3rd function hydraulic connection added for the front. No additional hydraulics currently installed for the rear.

Looking at a used traveling disc harrow with a hydraulic lift for limited use (and not while the grapple is attached!)


Though not ideal, could the 3rd Function setup be used for the rear for the disc lift, assuming disc hose length and connectors are addressed?

Sure, why not. Like you say - as long as you can manage the hoses. Which should be simple. Lots of people use the rear remotes for 3rd function why not the other way around. Might be a little awkward using the 3rd function switch while looking backwards but life is full of trade-offs.

the function doesnt know if its work on the front or the rear. use it. They ran FEL's off rear remotes for many years

Yes, indeed and I've done this whilst helping during haying season.

Fortunately my 3rd function isn't a hard line to the FEL. With an open-station, I was able to detach the couplings (as a set) and 'snake' the lines to, just behind, the seat.

A couple of tie-wraps (zip ties) and I was able to raise/lower the arms of a towed hay rake.

I used the fel system for a boom mower, and used the rear remotes for two hyd cylinders on my hay grapple.

No problem;use this system for my couple days a year running a grain drill.Make the hoses a couple feet longer than you "think" you will need.
