A member on another site shipped me some AC/DC 7018, asked if I would run a bend test to see the results. Far as I know this rod has never seen the inside of an oven. At the very end of the root pass the rod acted really funny, I could see the flux flaking off 3/4 to 1-inch above the puddle:confused:. I don't think I had the wrong rod angle, because this isn't my first rodeo;)! Even with this rod being cold, it ran very nice, maybe the best 7018 I have ever run!
I'll cut and bend the coupons tomorrow morning, and post the results.

When I first read your post I thought of the Lincoln E7018AC-RSP that I was using back in April 2012 before you introduced me to Lincoln Excalibur. It too had never seen an oven. Looking forward to the coupon test results.

They are some nice looking beads. Very interested to see them in some dirty/painted metal parts.

Every 7018AC I have run runs great on AC but better than most 7018's on DC when I have run them.

Looks good. My 250 should be at longevity any day now. I will be back to welding soon.

Here are the test results. It's obvious I need a better camera for close up shots:mad:. There is a blemish in the cap pass on the left coupon. Looks more like a ding than a rip. There is the same thing on the other coupon, way out of the weld zone. Maybe the coupons hit something when springing through the bender.

It says they don't recommend them for production work. I would take that to mean they are specialty rods with a specialty price $$$$$? Too bad you don't have Air Liquide Blueshield 7018 in the US. It's the most preferred in Alberta/Canada by a big margin and we have just about every brand of rod here.

I've had good luck with ESAB's Atom Arc, and I just got some Acclaim, but have only run a few rods, but so far impressed with it too! I've heard nothing but good things about the Air Liquide Blueshield! I'll bet it would cost a fortune to ship me 50-pounds. Then again you know my luck with shipping 7018!

If I'm ever down your way, I could bring you a can.
