Ugggg Truck problems

My friend ordered a new F350 6.7 Powerstroke 10 speed during covid. Took over a year to take delivery of it. But he also had transmission troubles. I think he said the torque converter failed in it? But then he said they replaced the transmission too under warranty. But his was deleted and programmed from day one and I don't know how hard he drives it? But I haven't seen too many fail.

Funny story: There was a time when Ford had GM (Detroit/Fuel Pincher) engines and GM (Allison) transmissions in their Ford medium duty trucks. Those were some pretty shameful days for Ford.

I've got one of those at my house.... No mosquitos though. ***cough cough***

My cousin bought a 2021 F250 with the 6.7, he took it in for a scheduled service. His has the 10 speed tranny, they discovered some silver in the transmissions fluid and found a big problem (My cuz never noticed anything). THey had it for 3 week and gave him a new transmission on warranty.

Back when there were still magazines, I read a couple articles that showed reasons why the Ford Torqshift was good or better than the Allison of the day. Doing a search here is a similar article on the newer ones. As with most things, take it with a grain of salt.

The torqshift transmissions were one thing ford got right.

They are damn near bombproof.

About 12 years ago a guy that retired from the same place as
me we were talking about new trucks as he wanted one and I
told him that you get a standard cab V8 standard tranny when
you want to sell it be will almost worthless and he purchased it new
$24k+ and only had approx 13K miles on it and wanted to trade
for something different they offered him $6k. Chevy 2500

willy
If I was looking for a used vehicle, A V8, standard transmission , 2 door would be exactly what I would be looking for.

Thats what a good salesman would say. Even if the original owner had problems with it right out of the gate and got rid of it, so it was someone else’s problem…

Average mileage in my State is just over 16k a year or 1300+/month. The guy has the truck for a few weeks and then remembers the color of his trailer and wants them to match so bad, he’s ready to go back through the buying process all over again…

Sounds fishy.
I got the title when I bought it.. Previous owners name was on it and I tracked him down and called him. Got his mother on the phone and told her who I was, and that I bought the truck.. I asked her if there was any reason he got rid of it so soon.. Her words were " Yeah.. he's an idiot.. He had it for a month and then bought a new trailer that's black and wanted his truck to match the trailer and traded it for a black one..
Im a pretty good judge of character and believe she was telling the truth.

A lot of us would prefer that setup. Odds are that they sold it for as much as if it'd had an 8 speed.

I thought that GM had phased out the manual transmission before the turn of the century... although for a while that's what they were calling their automatics because you could "manually" choose the gears.
Just as you've been able to do for as long as I've been driving.

I notice the 10 speed in my F150 when towing my tandem trailer with my Ford 3000 diesel in it occasionally make a popping noise when it upshifts. Almost sounds like a turbo wastegate popping off.
But it's got warranty, so let er blow, LOL

The manufactures have been trying to kill off the manual transmissions in pickups for some reason.
About 20 years ago my parents were told that GM (I think) would not warranty a pickup with a manual transmission for towing.

RAM was the last manufacturer to offer a manual transmission in their full sized pickups (only 2500/3500) with the Cummins Diesel, but discontinued it a couple of years ago.

Toyota may have a manual on some of their small pickups ????

I've got a 2013 RAM 3.6L with the 8 speed automatic transmission. So far it has been doing quite well. The transmission seems to slip a little when driving or backing my trailer up my paved driveway, and does better shifting to 4WD Low. However I haven't had that issue on the highway.

An annoying thing I discovered last summer when I was driving/towing up my back hill. I'd set it to 4-Low, and get a run for the hill. About halfway up the hill, I'd lose all power, and finally discovered that it had upshifted at the bottom of the hill, and couldn't downshift fast enough mid hill, nearly stalling the engine. How annoying. I wish I had the manual. I've started manually limiting it to 4-Low, first/second gears, and I seem to be fine, well, until it started raining and everything got slick.

An 8 or 10 speed manual might be nice, but would be a royal pain to shift, especially if it had two sticks like some of the big trucks.
