Interesting. My question would be what kind of environment would have spawned a life form that depended on suspended animation and dispersion throughout the universe for survival? Seems highly unlikely to me.

A life form that was forced to live under harsher and harsher conditions, loss of atmosphere, their sun star fading out; they could conceivably evolve the needed qualities or engineer them.

Insects on earth do some unlikely things. Seeds of some plants remain viable for many decades. Take a little of that, add to it with some 'droid alterations; it's not so far fetched. Some futurists feel that human evolution inevitably leads to cyborgs. I could see that, especially under extreme environmental stress.

Correct but the Vorlons and Shadows did not follow the Prime Directive. Just the opposite...

;):laughing::laughing::laughing:

I doubt too many TBNers know who (or what) the Vorlons and Shadows are...

I just bought all 5 seasons of "Babylon 5"...great series!

Yes, and the Vogon's with their highway construction ships, did not worry a lot about the prime directive either!:)

Nope. Not without a transmogrifier.

Yeah, I doubt it too but I figured I would see if I could get any bites!:laughing::laughing:

It is one of the best series put on TV. The first year or so the script and/or acting makes me cringe from time to time but by year 4 and 5 things are really rocking and rolling. I can't think of any other series that had me waiting desperately to see the next episode much less shouting at the TV or laughing!:shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Firefly was excellent too but was canceled. Firefly seemed to have a back story but it did not have time to reveal all. B5 had a planned 5 year story arc and thankfully, just barely, was able to complete it.

What do you want vs Who are you? :D

There are some many great lines in B5, far more than any other movie or series I know. Some of the lines and scenes, which seemed unimportant, actually had great importance years later. Rewatching the series always makes me see things that I never saw before. I bought the DVD's years ago and I should go watch the series again. Some of the different plot lines apply to current events today.

Well, we don't have a transmogrifier but think about this: some stem cell organ generation, a little genetic tinkering, mix in some nanotechnology; we could build a high performance lung. A lung that is capable of supporting life in an oxygen-reduced atmosphere, or a lung that has built-in enhanced scrubbers allowing survival in a more toxic atmosphere.

These capabilities are not far-fetched. We already have the basic knowledge to build upon.

I discovered Firefly on Netflix and watched them rapidly. I wanted more. But there were no more.

A coworker told me about Firefly and we watched them in reruns after the show was canceled. The show had high viewership but was canceled anyway. The show was just getting rolling when it was canceled. There is a movie that sorta ties things together. You can see the back story they had planned and it was a good one. Firefly had huge potential for a show and it is a shame it was killed off in spite of the fan support.

I live on Serenity Way.

I've lost count the number of times our street sign has been stolen, although the loss rate has gone down over the years.

"Daddy. What's that blue planet?"
"That called Earth, sweetheart."
"Does it have intelligent life on it?"
"Yes dear, but only the ones that drive tractors."

Fast radio bursts from 5.5 billion light years away.

Extremely short, sharp flash of radio waves from unknown source in the universe, caught as it was happening -- ScienceDaily
A strange phenomenon has been observed by astronomers right as it was happening -- a 'fast radio burst'. The eruption is described as an extremely short, sharp flash of radio waves from an unknown source in the universe.

"The theories are now that the radio wave burst might be linked to a very compact type of object -- such as neutron stars or black holes and the bursts could be connected to collisions or 'star quakes'. Now we know more about what we should be looking for," says Daniele Malesani.

OR, :) it could be intelligent life probing the universe. James, turn off that HAM set, you will give us away.

EDIT: I had another thought. The burst could be a homing signal and if it is coming to us, we are on the path to home.:eek:

Pedantic. "Caught as it was happening" 5.5 billion years ago :) The signal just go to us.

Yeah, a lot of people forget "time" when looking at space way beyond our solar system.

I think "caught as ..." means the original event was observed, not a detection of some residue bouncing around from an event not seen.

That's another series I bought on Blu-Ray...the series and the movie.
Babylon 5 was a great series...as was the new "Battlestar Galactica" and a lesser known series "Space: Above and Beyond". I have all on DVD or Blu-Ray.

My 2cents... There are most certainly other species out there. Every time we have encountered a more primitive civilization, we conquered it. The maya, The native Indians, Hawiians, and so forth. Morality is a human trait, and not all that common.

I find it funny that people assume we will be visited by "Benevolent" aliens, or that if they are advanced enough to travel across such vast distances that we will be able to defend ourselves..... with our lead shooting pop guns....

Kinda weird isn't it?. Of all the shows that even sci-fi fans don't really like, along comes one that most of us DO like, and it is canceled before it hardly gets off the ground..:confused3:

That's wild, but your right, not that far fetched. Yesterday's science fiction has a way of becoming today's reality. If we can think it up we can eventually achieve it.
It's amazing and feeds into my new religion, that we are the decedents of gods who can create a reality of anything we imagine. Well 1/2 gods anyways, -mix breeds. The other monkey 1/2 is still preoccupied with screwing, killing or flinging their poop at someone.

In The Year 2525 written in 1964 comes to mind also:
In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

Zager And Evans - In The Year 2525 Lyrics | MetroLyrics

I think we may beat 6565 by a long ways--if man survives.

You may want to consider that every good religion needs catchy music to calm down the monkeys. :)
