I actually think the Van Sickle color match is a hair better than the Valspar, but it is hard to find, I cannot find any internet outlet. It is sold thru Race Brothers and Orscheln farm store dealers. the Valspar is good paint though. Keep in mind I am matching my Kioti not a Kubota, and the Van Sickle is a perfect match for the Kioti.

After hearing other reviews similar to this, I am glad my local farm store (farm & fleet) still carries the valspar.
At work we use a lot of sherwin williams industrial enamel and it seems pretty good too.

Regardless of brand, I always do the light tack coat then 2 med coats, 10-15 mins apart. We use Sherman Williams enamel paint on the 3-phase converters and it will do the same..

Van Sickle is available at my local Smith Farms, which is an Ace store.. You can try there.
I am was thinking about getting a can of the Majic paint but with all the complaints I won't.
I got some Valspar Cub Cadet yellow in a spray can. That stuff was awful, it would not cover.
I guess I will be sticking with the genuine Kubota paint.

I will offer this review. I just used a can of the new magic paint and was impressed vs the valspar. Good coverage and was thick without runs. I really like the nozzle. IMO valspar nozzles need work. I can't tell you how many nozzles I have had plug up or rupture leaving a mess of the job and in my hand. Just my 2 cents

I was just at the local store today and noticed that the valspar "farm and implement" paint has been cut back and is being filled in with valspar "industrial armor" paint. I liked the "farm and implement" paint and "restoration" paint because it came in OEM colors. Does anyone know if this is the same paint, just in different colors, or is it different paint... better/worse?

I can't comment too much on the rattle cans, cause I rarely use them, and its only for touch-up when I do.
Yellow of any brand don't cover well unless primed with either grey or yellow primer. I have painted a lot of yellow things with lots of yellow brands.

Yea, I have never had much luck with yellow in a spray can. Have tried the rustoleum industrial safety yellow alot at work, JD brand yellow, BPS brand JD yellow, valspar, plain rustoleum, etc. Mostly for touch ups on mower decks and my meyer plow that I painted JD yellow cause I already had a quart. When I painted the plow, I actually got yellow primer, cause I knew yellow didnt cover well no matter what. When I painted the JD261 mower deck I had, I used grey primer. And took several light coats to cover it. Much better results with yellow primer, but I know it isnt as common as grey or red primer.
Ever since paint companies were forced to remove lead from paint, getting the products to cover has been difficult.
Bright colors like yellow and red are always the worst.
A similar color primer is almost always the best option.
Since bright yellows are always transparent to some degree, no matter how many coats you apply, using a white primer or base will reflect the most light, and give you the brightest and cleanest end result in the sun.

I have had my problems with getting yellow to cover as well. Here is a picture of nozzle problems with the Valspar. I was just painting along today and "bam" paint everywhere in my hand. The other issue I have with Valspar is that is is not as glossy and you end up with flat unblended edges when touching up.

I have sprayed thousands of gallons of clear.
35 years of painting cars, trucks, aircraft, boats. etc.
Clear coat does give a deep wet gloss, but you can easily get a nice gloss with a decent single stage urethane.

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this but does this hold true for rattle cans? Would rattle can clear make up for a mediocre top paint layer? I know this is like asking Martha Stewart which are the best cheap paper napkins...

If you put enough clear on anything, it will look better.
But remember, every coat adds potential dirt and imperfections. All of which are visible in the clear.
Though I have been retired for a few years now, I still get conned into doing stuff like patching a rust hole around this fuel filler.
Since I had no interest in doing this, or any additional painting, I could not justify the cost of the materials I would have had to buy to do this little job, and only use very small amounts of the products. So, I primed, painted, and clear coated this repair, entirely with spray cans.
After I buffed it a little the next day, it looked just like the rest of the car.

I have had problems with Chevy orange paint too, the Platikote brand. I think Plastikote is a Valspar company. When they changed the can to a different style nozzle it never covered like it did before. I think they changed something in their formulation. It may have had to do with the VOC's:confused3: The old Plastikote Chevy orange always did a good job covering.
Do you think it is a nozzle problem or the paint is just too thin? Can you switch the nozzles between the cans?
