That's a fantastic attachment. So much of the nastiness of a clearing operation is dealing with dirty stumps in the burn pile. Your tree shear will allow the stump to stay in the ground for easier burning and less soil impact. It looks like you can cut things low enough to drive right over them.

Very impressive.

I have a different design of shear with opposing blades. You can cut flush or even below the surface. But if the stump is where it will be driven over multiple times, like on a trail, what was once flush can be sticking up several inches as the dirt packs around it. No big deal most of the time but they have a way of making their presence know once in awhile.

Just out of curiosity, how do you get a stump that is green and underground, with access to air on only one side to burn?

Jim,

Are the trees too big to pull? If not maybe consider something like I built, eliminates regrowth.

Joee and DSB thanks!

Love to see more pics of both, esp DSB since I cannot quite make out the details.

[FYI--you can use TBN's picture uploading (see menu bar) to send up mutiple pics and then past the URL into a post. That elims putting one pic at a time in a post, and makes it possible to post larger ones as well.]

I'm waiting on Mr Phifer who sells for TreeTerminator to call with when he is coming by. With any luck we'll be jumping out to take the Liminator for a trial run soon. Has anyone gone to their website (see my 1st post above) and viewed the video--pretty interesting.

Several of you guys commenting here are engineers, one even a CE. How bout doing a Free Body Diagram of the forces from a tree of XY" DBH falling back on the guards of these units and predicting whether the steel there can take the stress /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif!

Did I tell you Land Pride (makes the TreeLiminator) ducked that question when I wrote to them. They did reply but very broadly and generally and with little real substance /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif.

DSB, on the pulling question, I have both small enough and too large for pulling. Being on a steep slope, I am wary of pulling by the roots since erosion will be worse. Painting the stumps cut flush with 2-4-d or roundup seems a solution here, no pun intended. But the puller might be a choice in other areas.

My timber specialist blythly suggested I take my Liebherr 621C track loader down the hill. Yeah.

Re: Trees--cut with \'Limminator or \'Terminator?

Yesterday I met with a forest clearing contractor to discuss removal of brush and tree piles. It led to pictures of his equipment for various services he offers. He uses 2 attachments for his skidsteer which perform well because of the high hydraulic flow on the skidsteer. In looking at my local Bobcat dealer website I came across a rental for forest clearing with the name of Fecon for the equipment. That took me to the following website http://www.fecon.com/products/default.asp which advertises the Bull Hog brush mulcher and the Bunching Shear for cutting up to 14 inch trees. Both of these are the attachments the contractor uses for his work. There are several good videos at this site well worth taking a look at. Not sure of purchasing price for these but it appears that rentals are available through construction/forestry equipment rentals. I intend to take the trip up to my Bobcat dealer this morning to see which of these Fecon units they have.

Re: Trees--cut with \'Limminator or \'Terminator?

Jim, the 'Tree Terminator' folks make a puller Tree puller . I was quoted $1800 for their model. Ended up deciding to fabricate my own.
