Used a truck many times, and they are quite effective. Just don't get crazy and think you are gonna pull a 50" oak against a 20 degree lean with an s10.

Ok Its down . and went pretty much where I wanted it. the base was solid but the upper limbs were dead . So I had that to deal with also. thanks for all the ideas and info

If you going to use cable, you should add rope to the system. Rope will stretch and give the system more dynamic propertys. Where the cable looses nearly all pull as the tree starts to move, the rope will still add some pressure. Decent yachting braid will suffice, we use 16mm rope and find it works great.

We just about never use vehicles to pull over trees, its a dangerous, unreliable and unpredictable practice, and I have seen it go wrong to many times
