Tree Claims Hunter

After having a couple of back surgeries I had to quit climbing deer stands. They apparently cut some of my balance out or something. I started hunting from the ground, then after having more back trouble in the past few years I started hunting from the seat of my parked UTV. Funny thing is that I see and harvest just as many deer as I ever did from a tree stand with much more comfort.

Been teaching hunter ed. for over 20 years.....we tell students.....tree stands are the number one cause of deaths for all hunting accidents.....be careful in tree stands....know your equipment and use all safety precautions.

Hunting from motorized vehicle is legal in Tx if on leased or owned property. Disabled hunters can get a permit that alow's hunting from vehicle on public land. Couple rednecks went to jail when judge didn't alow their defense that public land included public roads. I do believe the judge wouldn't have sentaced them to weekends in jail on top of a fine had they not been under the influence.

That last should be a hanging offense as far as I'm concerned. Alcohol and gunpowder don't mix; no ifs, ands, buts, or maybes. I guess you could call me a HADH... hunter against drunk hunting.

Actually with all the very serious hunting accidents from falling out of trees or other home made hunting setups I am very surprised they continue to allow hunting like that.

Who is "they" and besides hunting from trees,what else would be disallowed ?

When I was tadpole tree stands were :thumbsup: not so much today because of age ladders limbs etc. use for climbing one needs to be extra careful of tractions....snow frost wet etc.

Hunting from a home made or store bought tree stand is no more dangerous than using a ladder to paint or clean the gutters. There is some risk associated with most activities. I am an adult in a mostly free country and don’t need “they” to decide what kind of deer stand I use.

^^^ When you're on a ladder doing a task, you're (usually) awake, alert and aware of your surroundings. When in a tree stand trying to be still so as not to scare game off, some apparently fall asleep and ....

,,,,,and "they" should decide whether the hunter can sit in the tree? "They" already forbid sitting in trees on some public land,should that extend to all trees on all land?
