OK, I got a shot at a Ford 2N. Web sites have it weighing in at 2300-2500lbs.
I have a "single axle" trailer with 3500lb rating and a small SUV rated at 3500lb towing.

Now I know this may not be the best solution, but by the numbers it looks like it is within the limits. It is for one trip of about 225 miles.

Opinions???!!!!

What kind of roads and speeds will you be travelling?

Does the trailer have brakes?

How much does the trailer weigh?

I think you'd be better off renting a 2-axle trailer with brakes if this a "once-only" trip. If you're on flat terrain and you keep your speed at 55 and keep overdrive turned off, your SUV can probably handle the load, especially this time of year with cooler air temperatures helping keep your engine and trans cool.

Even if the trailer weighs 1000 lbs you're still in the towing range of your vehicle. Be careful and drive way ahead of you and the guy in front of you and you'll be fine.

Hiways, 55-65, but would most likley keep it down around 55mph.

No, trailer does not have brakes.

Don't know how much the trailer weighs. It is a pretty standard design 6.5'x12' with a ramp and 2"x10" plank floar.

I have done something similar, with a Kubota B9200 and a two axle light duty trailer. The distance was short and I will NEVER do it again. The trailer had been used to haul hay so I know I was not over the limit on it, but I was way too close for comfort. Borrow or rent a proper two axle trailer and enjoy the trip. That distance is a long way to go while wondering if you are going to create an accident.

No trailer brakes. A load that probably weighs almost as much as the SUV.

Best to think of some other means of transportation. It may cost more but be cheaper in the long/ or is short run.

I think thats the right call....
but just to add one point, I think you would have a tongue weight problem.

Big difference between a single axel and a double axel trailer as far as tongue weight. That load on a single axel trailer would likely exceed the 500 lbs rating of most hitches.

You can probably do it, but I'd hate to and I'll do things most won't. Keep in mind pulling won't be the problem. Controlling it at 55 and stopping will be! I think you are crazy if you don't rent somehting to pull it with or pay someone else to haul it for you. Also you are actually illegal pulling a trailer without brakes in some states.

I believe that brakes are required at 1000 GVW in NY. I remember back in 1964 I was towing home a 1926 Buick on a 2 axle trailer without brakes hooked to my 1964 Chevy Impala Convertible. I went over the railroad tracks and the trailer started to fish tail. I was all over the road and the only thing that saved me was that I was on the emergency squad and had a huge blue light on the dash.... I flipped the switch on the light and leaned on the siren..... traffic cleared and I was able to get it under control using both lanes. If it were not for the light and siren, I probably would have taken out a few cars and heaven knows how many people. After that, I parked the trailer, unloaded the car and had the car brought home on the back of a wrecker. Left the trailer in a field near home and one night it dissappeared...... I feel sorry for who ever stole it.......
