Trailer buying help, please.

My book shows that in Maine it must have brakes if over 3,000#. Nothing again about all axles but its just a guide, not the bible. I have the number for all states administrator if you would like to give them a call.

Two thing that kills me looking through Maine's rules is a max 45 MPH speed limit pulling trailers and a brake-away system is not required. I bet the speed one is broken every 5 seconds. Also if you are going to put brakes on why not make a brake-away mandatory???

I understood that break-away brakes was also mandatory if the trailer had brakes. I will research this and post a link if I can find it.

Here is the statute regarding brakes on all axles...

[4. Trucks; specific requirements. Special mobile equipment or a truck, truck tractor, trailer or semitrailer must be equipped with adequate brakes acting on all wheels of all axles, except that the following need not meet this requirement:
A. A trailer or semitrailer not exceeding a gross weight of 3,000 pounds]
