To be clear, according to reports the 25% tariffs will not be implemented, or if implemented will be removed, once Mexico and Canada stop the flow of illegal immigrants and fentanyl into the U.S. In other words, the next administration is going to use tariffs as a weapon to achieve economic and political outcomes which are in the best interest of America, fulfilling the America first policy. This is a great way for the next administration to effect foreign policy changes even before he takes office.

**checked 3 times for any political stuff.**

The professor and I use to have epic debates on this way back in 2017 on this issue.

I wish I could go back and see some of the discussions and see who was right.

What ever happened to the professor, is he still alive.

Puts me in an awkward position. I’m a free trade absolutist. On the other hand, I see using tariffs makes a ton of sense. If countries are going to aid the abuse of our weak border policy then they deserve the effects of having to play hard ball against US foreign policy.

Tariffs go both ways. Sometimes they help problematic countries change their restrictive import policies (China) and sometimes it hurts consumers in the tariff land. (us here) Just depends on who is printing the news that day.

I'm struggling to find another tool at our disposal to affect outcomes? Nation states have done this effectively for decades.

Exactly. If you lie down, you will be walked on. Every country has a duty to place its people first, I understand why. There are various means by which to reach that end.
