Tractors 101 - where to learn

I guess I will add my .02 cents worth. First let me say I only have one acre of land but i do some tractor work for neighbors and maintain a 17 acre grass runway also. That said, I have over the years had two BX series tractors and while sturdy little powerhouses I moved up to a B series Kubota with 29 Hp and am very happy with the upgrade. The plus reasons include more ground clearance as well as increased power for both fEL and attachments on the there point in the rear. I have been very happy with the "B " series. Sometimes would have liked to have a cab on it but in reality it would be impractical for most of the work I use it for. While there may be some advantages to an even larger tractor the "B" series in very maneuverable for getting around trees etc. A very nice compromise that is a workhorse.

I have 16 acres and a 35 hp tractor with a 5 ft rotary cutter. Every time I cut the grass, I want a 45 hp tractor with a 6 ft rotary cutter just a little bit more. Man a cab would be freakin awesome too.

Well, my first tractor decision just got made for me! I have scored a FREE Kubota B7100HST in good overall condition!
Unbeknownst to me, my dad has it at his home in North Carolina and when I told him I was looking at tractors, he said I could have his! I didn't even know he owned a tractor!!! Says he thought he'd need it up there, but hasn't started it in a year. Even better, he's going to bring it to me since he's coming down here in a few weeks!

Now, I have to refocus my attention on finding a used tiller and post hole digger for it. I guess for free, I'll not worry about the lack of FEL!

:dance1: :cool2:

My goodness, 16 acres with a 5 foot cutter? I have a 50" zero turn for 5 acres I'm about to close on; only about three of which requires mowing and that's probably going to be bad enough.

I used to mow 7 acres every 2 weeks with a 5 foot finish mower behind my (at the time) New Holland TC33D. It was not bad at all. A few hours, the wife helped with the trim mowing around things with a small riding lawn mower. It has been a long time, but I think we got it down to around 3 or 3 1/2 hours or so. We used to actually enjoy doing it. It was a great way to unwind after work.
