Since getting the tractor and many toys for it, I realized I needed more outdoor storage. The plan was to expand what I already had where my boat is stored for the winter. From clearing some land and getting some from my in-laws, I had a enough tall straight cedar logs to do the main framing. Using other bought lumber and ordering metal roof panels, I had what I needed. It didn't take too long with the help of my oldest son. When planning I made sure that each bay was at least 8' high so I could go in and out with the tractor ROPS up. The new bays are about 12' wide so it is relatively easy to maneuver trailers etc. in /out and any other toys. With a few good cross members, there is plenty of upper storage for lumber etc. Believe it or not, it still is not quite enough room once everything is put away, but its close.

Thanks for looking

Nice work!!! Kinda post n beam style.

So, did the township building inspector love your work?

Hi Thanks,

Don't want to open the can of worms, but this job the inspector has not had any input on. I copied it in part off my neighbors. Very functional

Thanks Dave

Looks nice and I can understand it not being big enough. Just couple questions. How is the structure attached to the ground? Are there footings? Looks like it is just sitting on top of the concrete.

It is not anchored and is sitting on very solid compacted "A" gravel. The original had not moved for 10 years. You may notice on the finished pic, it is very sheltered from wind by a treed hillside. The posts are set in the 4"x4" deck block pattern, so they aren't just sitting on top. Once all was braced together, it is a very solid structure. Once you have a bay for the tractor, a bay for the boat and a bay for my larger trailer and then implements, it runs out fast.

I'd be happy with a tractor shed the size of your origional. I want to get one up before the snow flies. What you're building looks nice.

I Like the look of it, I had the same Question re anchoring to the ground. Up here in near north ontario, It wouldnt take long for that to shift or get blown over (despite its weight).

Any concerns with Snow Load on that roof ?, not sure if i see any Trusses in there. Would the added surface area of the new roof give you any concern for collapse ?

Again, in Ajax, you're snow load wil be less than mine (typically), but Id worry about the "big one" especially that heavy wet stuff.

Hi,

The first part I have had up for about 10 years with no shifting problems. I may have mentioned that it is well sheltered by a hillside (One pic may show it). Adding the other 2 bays, I didn't see a shifting problem. If it was in a totally open area I may have anhored more securely. No there are no trusses, 2"x6"'s in this case extend to the back. I could have used 2"x8" or bigger to beef it up but it has not had any issues. As far as the snow goes, it is located closer to Bancroft where like many areas has recieved a lot of snow lately. On the original, with the metal roof, the snow never really accumulated and then on a warmer or sunny days would slide offf the back. I am not worried about collapse as the main post and beams are all solid cedar posts ( almost like 12"x12" beams). I hope I don't have to report back on the big collapse down the road!

We don't have no county or township.
building inspectors here.
Nice to know there are still some areas of freedom in the country.

I wish we still had freedom here as well. We can't even drive under the influence here anymore without being pulled over and arrested.
