When I say tree work, I mean the whole process. I would definitely avoid using arborist blocks for ground work, but I use the sliding blocks for everything now, rope, a steel, or cable. One thing we haven't mentioned so far is what the blocks can handle, so be sure they specify cable, rope, or both when shopping/buying (many of the 3/8" cast blocks are cable only). And be sure the blocks are rated both with a working load limit and a breaking limit. I'd stay away from any block under $50 for sure. Good ones are $50-100 or more. Go for ball bearings if the block will see continuous high speed use.
