Tractor
2001 Kubota B2910
I have finally narrowed my choices to either a 2710 or 2910 tractor with an LA402 loader with a 60" bucket, a 72" mid-mount mower, and R4's. I will eventually get a 3ph mounted chipper, a disc, a tree toad, a 60" box blade, and a log splitter (plus whatever else comes up). My question is whether a 2710 will have the HP to handle all of the above, or should I go with the 2910. I have about 5 acres of corn field to make into a lawn, and 18 acres of woods to clean up, about a 300 foot driveway to cut through the woods, and then maintain. And there will be snow to re-arrainge. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe

Joe, I bought my 2710 before the 2910 came out, and yes, it'll have the power for the implements. I doubt (but admit I'm guessing) that you'd notice much difference in the power. I think the usual reasons, instead of power, for going with the 2910 is the cruise lever on the right, telescoping lower links, tilt wheel, and better suspension in the seat. As to whether it's worth the extra cost; you'll have to decide for yourself.

I was under the impression that the B2710/B2910 price difference was under $1000. If this is still true, I have already decided that for that price difference I would go for the B2910. But as Bird says, it really depends upon whether the extra features and horsepower is worth the extra money.

Only problem I have is that my B2150 does nearly everything I ask of it and can't find any reason to justify the upgrade.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. The dealer priced the difference right at $1000 between the two tractors. The only thing other than the horsepower that I was interested in, was the telescoping arms on the 3ph. My dealer says he thinks they are available for about $100 @ pr. He is trying to find someone at Kubota that can confirm this. Both tractors have cruise control, and the 2910 uses the toolbox area under the seat for the adjustable seat spring, so I would have to mount a toolbox elsewhere. I've pretty much decided to go with the 2710 and use the extra money to help defray the expenses of a new house, barn, and all the other stuff that goes with constructing a new home. I just needed some confirmation that the 2710 would be up to the tasks that I ask of it. I think it will do just fine.
Thanks again, Joe

I have a 2910 and think the price difference is well worth it.

First, let me address some slight misperceptions I detect in the posts. The 2710 does not have the same kind of cruise control as the 2910. The 2710 just has a binary switch that locks in whatever speed your gas pedal is at. The 2910's cruise control lever can actual vary the travel speed, like the gas pedal, and then lock it in wherever you position the lever. That said, I find cruise control to be completely useless for my mowing. It might be useful if you have long stretches of field to mow; I don't. You can also brake steer with the 2910 cruise/acceleration control, another dubious ability.

Second, there is a toolbox on the 2910. It is not under the seat. It slides into a bracket underneath the seat assembly, just above the left rear wheel. My dealer didn't know this either.

Speaking of seats, I find the 2910's spring seat to be a SIGNIFICANT improvement. I would pay $300 for it alone. The extension arms are not important to me because I use Freedom Hitches, but many antiquarians here consider the extensions to be a very useful improvement for that otherwise pitiful interface known as a 3ph.

Finally, I think 3 more gross hp, 2 more pto hp, and 10 more engine cc's is a significant difference. You may never notice it, but with 23 acres and the kind of property and jobs you describe, you may very well. In fact, with that much property and a house to build, you maybe should even be thinking of something bigger than a 2910. Once you have your tractor, you will think of at least 3 times as many jobs for it to do than before you bought one.

Look at a 3710, as that is the largest Kubota that still can take a belly mower. Look at the Deere 4300. But don't look for unanimity here. Good luck on a long journey.

I'd take a look at the 3ph chipper that you would like to run. Check the pto hp requirements as they can be "power hungry" depending on the size capability.

I'll really be shocked if you can get the telescoping links for $100/pair. Kubota doesn't have anything that cheap. A simple grill protector is $238, so I can't imagine anything else Kubota sells costing less than that /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

Thought I would update you on my selection. I ordered a 2910 with FEL & belly mower, and it should be at the dealer next Monday. They will deliver it to me later next week after assembly and some dyno time. I got them to throw in a pair of chain hooks and the parts and service manuals. Now I have to sit patiently while my grass continues to grow above my knees. I'll post an update after a few hours of seat time.

Joe,
Congrats on the new unit to be...

But why some dyno time?

Just curious...

Nice choice Joe, that's the same setup I have /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif....you're going to love it. And don't worry about the grass growing above your knees, the B2910 will handle it no problem /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. Mowing my 3 acres of grass is a joy with the B2910 & 72" mid deck.
