tractor broken

New here. Hi all!
My MF GC2310 TLB with 400 hrs. is making a clicking sound which sounds like it is coming from the pinion shaft housing. I am assuming there is a gear problem. I have no experience with this tractor. I got it used w/300 hrs. in Nov. 2010. If I hold back tightly on the 4wd lever it does not click when moving. Otherwise it clicks and will catch at times and drag the front wheel on the pinion shaft side. Has anyone had probs. with this? Is it a DIY project for a fairly handy Maine old timer?

From what you've described , unless your fairly mechanically knowledgeable,,,,,,,you better take it in
