I am pleased as punch with the 2.7EB in my F-150. Terribly glad I didn't get the 3.5EB as Ford doesn't seem to be willing to do what it takes to fix the cam phaser reliability issue. Yet got it right on the 2.7EB.
I don't follow Ford, but I'm surprised anyone is towing 10k lb. with a 2.7 liter engine. Even if you could manage to get the required power from it, to maintain reasonable speed while climbing hills, that must be an awful lot of stress on some very small components. Oversized connecting rods, a heavy crank, and long-skirt pistons all go against maximizing horsepower from a small displacement powerplant.

So, I drive an F350 for ***** and giggles. You folks arguing that these guys need an HD pickup to haul their SCUT/CUT a handful of times a year, you're being unrealistic. Properly equipped, a modern half-ton truck can tow 10k pounds all day long; then it can spend the majority of it's life as a family hauler and Home Depot runner, while getting 19 combined MPG. That makes a lot more sense than the 11-13 MPG a Super Duty is going to get, in an easier to maneuver package.

Oh, but buy a diesel!

If you're not towing regularly you're not running that diesel hard enough to keep it happy; so why pay a premium for an engine you're not going to utilize to it's fullest ability, one that is more expensive to maintain?

I absolutely love my F350, but it's wildly impactable for the majority of people.

Didn't say I am towing 10k with it, I just said I am pleased as punch.

325 HP and 400 lb-ft at 2750 RPM is nothing to sneeze at.

I know a lot of guys with F250's that look nicer than, but also do a lot less towing than, my 1500 Outdoorsman. Most of them have a hitch in the receiver that never gets used, and a pair of shackles hanging either side of it... just to make their truck look a little tougher. :D

The shackles are due to the piss poor design of the loops on the hitch; they're ridiculously small. I've never needed them before this truck.

No, there is a reason for them, lol.

The 2023 has a redesigned hitch, so you'll see less of the hammerlocks as time goes on.

I do not agree with the gas hog statement, our 5.7 V8 Tundra pulled a travel trailer all over the west and Rockies averaging 14+ mpg the whole time. It averages 18+ around home in highway and city driving and just under 23 on long highway trips hauling only me and the boss. Granted I do drive with a light foot but I consider that towing mileage very good with over 7K hooked to it. BTW gas mileage is manually figured and NOT the on board computer.
Lol, you must drive reeeeallly carefully.

Because your fellow Tundra owners are averaging 15 mpg WITHOUT towing anything.

"Tundra is more American than any other truck." False. "Tundra is the most reliable truck in its class." Based on what, a CR article, or internet talk. Besides reliability is overrated. Do you think your average big 3 full-sized truck is just crapping the bed after 100K? I've got a 03 Lightning with 208K that's never given me an issue outside of expected maintenance. My parents have an 08 F150 with over 350K miles and that truck runs smooth as silk, fires up at the snap of your fingers, burn no noticeable oil, no weird .

I
You are entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. Toyota has consistently had better reliability than the big 3. Your anecdotes are like a gambler arguing that because someone won the lottery that everyone should gamble.

Wow, bust out the popcorn because this truck argument is just terrific.

The "most american made" competition is pretty dumb. YES, we should all want our vehicles assembled in the United States with as much American made content as possible, but all vehicles are a mix of sourcing (Tesla is a level up, tho). Personally what I also want, is my vehicle to be ENGINEERED in the United States, since that's the industry I work in.

The new tundras are great trucks but still have generally low payload. If you have to go back some years, so as not to spend $65,000 on one, you'll also be stuck at 14 mpg with the 5.7L V8. Frankly, the 3.5L Ecoboost F150 has been on top of the 1/2 market since 2015 (start of aluminum body). Very easy to spec a crew cab 4x4 with well over 10k lbs of towing AND a payload above 1800 lbs. Meanwhile getting 20 mpg in daily driving, easily. I still had to pay $35,000 for my used 2019 earlier this year (gulp) but it is gonna kick ass at all my towing needs up to 10k for years to come. Loving it so far.
