Towed Tractor Rollover

There is the remains of a bushhog in the lower right of the pic. So add another couple of hundred pounds to the trailer load. There is an older gentleman in the group of people standing in the picture looking glum... I would guess, it's his tractor & shredder. They were going to the young couple's new place. He was going to clear the overgrown field. How that for a caption...

Suppose the fel was raised over the hog? Wow, what a a mess. Look for it on eBay w some fuzzy pix "needs tlc".

Wasn't too long ago when an accident like that would have killed them all. Seatbelts kept them in the truck and airbags saved their faces from the windshield.

Looks like the tractor might have been loaded too far towards the rear of the trailer and maybe it fishtailed?

That picture posted above is from a hill about 6 miles or so north of Gaylord, Michigan. This accident happened fairly high up on the hill, most are lower down. I went past the accident right after it happened. I-75 north of Gaylord is fairly flat until it passes under an overpass then jogs to the right. About here there is a down grade that bends to the left until it gets down to the same elevation as the little village of Vanderbilt at exit 290. There are numerous jackknifed trailers here several times each year. Folks get by with little or no tongue weight until they get to this ' test area '... usually with bad results. This one was one of the worst, they blocked I-75 off later when they cleared out the wreck... Shame... feel sorry for the folks....

I wasn't sure from the picture, but you guys seem to be able to identify it as a half ton. If that's really the case, that's way way too much of a load for that truck.

Hopefully some folks see this and realize how important having the right size truck and trailer is.

Looks like a 2500 based on the wheels, still a bit much for the truck for my liking, even if it had trailer brakes.

More than what the truck is, the fact it was overloaded was more of the issue. All that stuff in the back, three people and probable driver inexperience become a cumulative problem. You can tow anything with anything if you take it easy and know your limitations. I've towed too much with too little over the years--but at 30 mph and on flat ground. No problem.

Not sure it's a fact that it was overloaded. Seems to be a lot of conclusions drawn about the incident and quick judgment on the driver.
Haven't heard anyone mention mechanical failure.
