Torque specs

Does anyone know the torque specs for a ym1700 valve cover nuts that hold the valve cover down? I bought a shop manual and cant seem to find that one piece of info. I have all the other specs for the head bolts and everything else to put the motor back together. This is a link to hoye site showing a pic of what I am talking about. I would be very surprised if that was listed. Nothing critical there, just snug them down.

Valve cover gaskets are usually soft material easily compressed. Like Norm said snug them down. If you tighten as far as they will go they will leak for sure where you squeeze out all the material.

When I got my 2000 home,The same V-cover. I was going through it checking everything. I went to check my Valves and when I removed the cover there was no V-cover gasket and with no visible leaks. No way am I going to smell burnt oil and Diesel if it does start to leak. So I ran a bead of Silicone and let it start to dry and then snugged up the bolts. No Gasket, Been that way for 9-1/2yrs. without a drop...

The original valve cover gasket on YM240, and I assume YM1700, is rubber a little thicker than an innertube. It's intended to be reusable so don't gouge it getting the valve cover off!

I put a thin bead of silicone on the valve cover to force a tighter seal and stick the rubber to the valve cover. It never has leaked.

Similarly, I found a semi-permanent fiber gasket, like rope, embedded in a grove in the YM186's valve cover. Also don't gouge that one!

Thanks for all the help guys. I have all new gaskets from Hoye waiting to install as soon as I get time. Just wanted to double check things before I went to installing everything. I figured it was cheap insurance to ask! Thanks again
