yesterday after getting the mower out from Winter storage I warm it up as usual work the hydraulics to get the fluid recirculated, I then give a 180* spin to the left, and a 180* to the right, then I go for a 360* when suddenly I find myself in a cloud of smoke, (Oil smoke) No changes in the way the engine running, no noise either, just a cloud of smoke,
So I idle the engine on down for about 1 minute then shut it off, check the oil, It checked out good,
Then to restart it to see if it would be difficult to start or if might have oil fowl plug?
but it starts right up as usual, although now I do notice it slightly but steadily smoking, I rev it on up and it stops smoking or at least I can't see it smoking, Only at idle can I see it Puff-Puff-puff and smell burnt oil,
I guess It broke a ring
It's an 18 hp B/S single cyl, with spin off oil filter, been a darn good engine, So why suddenly did it start smoking or break the ring I was just getting ready to change the oil and put it back in service for the year,
on another Note: does anyone know the value of a 27 hp Kohler engine is worth,? I was told of a man who has one for sale. might get cheap ( perhaps for $100 )because he change it out for the same reason ( started smoking ) if I have to rebuild an engine I wouldn't mind having a larger one on the ZT,
