I need a new top link. The body got bent making it difficult to adjust. The one I have on the tractor now has a body length of 14.5 inches, but no one has that length. Would it be best to go a little shorter or go a little longer?

Only you and your implements can answer that. I would say measure your pin center to center distance on your uses and go from there.

well, based on the amount of extension (2 to 3 inches on each end) that I need for my implements the
16"should work very well. There are two applications that would need very little extension of the top link. Thanks for walking me through this process.

I use a couple different top links. A long 1 for the brush cutter and a short 1 for the box blade. I'm thinking of adding a hyd top link.

I suspect your bright-plated top link is a replacement.

I went out and measured my original, black painted YM240 top link: 12.5" body, 22" pin-to-pin with the threads extended maybe 60%. I would give this a little more thought before buying one substantially longer than this. But as Winston said, your own measurement of what you need is the best guide.

On my 1700 when measuring from center of the hole at the tractors end to parallel just over the lower lift arms ball' joints it is 19"
I would think this could be the starting point of determine any tractors top link length, Now add 5" to extend totals 24"
OK starting over, Now take 5" from 19 = 14" OK if you have a 14" top link and adjust it out as far as it will safely extend you'll have 24" This leaves approx 1.5 inch of thread in both ends, ( at least does on the top link I have) Of course I haven't got an implement that requires a full extension of 24",

The Disk harrows is what I currently have connected and I use it parallel to the ground with the link at 19".... the Bush-hog cutter I'll extend to about 22" .... the box scrap I'll pull it into about 17" in order to get the teeth to dig good, The only thing I ever had which required the shortest position was a Boom pole, having the link short will extend the boom higher,
