Happen to have a before photo? So that toolbox just replaces the "passenger side" step? Is it beefy enough to step on, or do you just rely on the console & joystick blocking off that side door already?

Yes, the 5A3O4 box uses the OEM tool box mount on the right (passenger) side and just replaces the OEM plastic box. The box mount is marked "No Step" and wouldn't support the weight of a person. The tool box itself is not quite strong enough to use as a step anyway, at least for someone my size. The FEL joystick pretty much blocks the right side for getting on / off the machine so there is no loss of convenience. That wouldn't be the case though for a tractor with a fender mount FEL control. For tractors equipped that way, an alternative tool box location would have to be found or get a box strong enough to use as a step.

In case anyone is interested, here are a few observations on the A&I Products 5A3OR tool box: As suggested, It will not bolt to the frame of a MX where the OEM tool box is located. It does however fit the step mount used by the OEM box. It required drilling 2 - 5/16" holes in the bottom of the box and reusing the OEM bolts. It took about 10 minutes to install. The box does not extend out past the edge of the heavier gauge step mount plate and is protected from damage underneath. When mounted to the step, the 4 rear holes used for frame mounting should be plugged to help keep out dirt & debris. The box itself is heavier duty than other boxes I was considering. It is made of 18 gauge steel, weighs just under 7 pounds and feels quite robust for it's 16 1/2" L 4 1/2" W 4 1/2" D size. It also fits very well in the space occupied by the plastic OEM box on the MX and has 3 times the volume.

Is it worth the $47 pricetag? I suppose it depends on the individual. In my case, I'll wait to see how well it holds up under use before passing judgement.

So how well does the paint color match up to Kubota orange?

In case anyone's interested, this place has some of the best prices I have found on A&I stuff (to my zip the box is $41 shipped):

A-5A3OR, (Miscellaneous), Tool Box, Orange,

That is a beautiful tool box that looks suspiciously like the one on the M6800 or M7040. Suppose it's OEM for Kubota?
This is the kind and size of toobox most compact or utility tractors need.

Parts Depot.com sold one a while back that looks very similar in size and shape. It has a clamp down latch instead of the hasp on the 5A3O4. They claimed it was Kubota OEM part # 32781-96320 :

Kubota Toolbox Kit

Not sure about the price but it was sold as a kit and included the step mount.

I priced an exact looking one for an M6800 and I recall it being close to $100. The one referenced earlier in these posts was $27. It would not surprise me if the two were the same. You can price the Kubota one online at Messick's and even cross reference the part number with other models.

Thanks for the idea. I put this together yesterday. I have an L3200 and my overall length is 13.5". I used 4" schedule 40 and turned it down a little and used two 3" caps that fit inside the 4" pretty well. Drilled the sides of one of the caps and used 1/2 conduit for a handle. Used gorilla glue. Have to figure a latch yet or maybe cut a small slot for an oring and use that to keep it from sliding around. It fits 10ft of 5/16 chain no problem.

Neat idea! If I had a lathe, I probably would have used sch 40 pipe and fittings instead of sch 20 for the extra strength. I like the recessed end cap and handle with nothing to snag. Since my scheme uses a jam fit, I was afraid of recessing it further to avoid sticking. Although it hasn't come loose on its own yet, I did make up a crude safety cable just in case.

That was my first thing I cut on it. I just finally got some tooling to be able to use it. I'm thinking just make a groove for and oring and see how that works.

How much did you have to turn off the schedule 40 PVC? Is there something the will stop it from turning?
