I read some folks who were really enamored with the Knipex pliers (in the Rounded Drain Plug thread) so I picked up a pair of their Cobra locking pliers a while back. I can't figure out how it get it to lock. Seems just like a normal set of slip-jaw pliers to me. They look well made though and I like the way they adjust.

They don’t lock like a pair if vice grips would. They do grip much better than a cheaper set of slip jaw pliers. The difference is the quality of the teeth. And do yourself a favor and get some 10” knipex side cutters. They’re the best cutters I’ve ever had.

Yes, that is the one. I tried it out on a few things and couldn't get it to 'lock' in any fashion. I know it isn't locking as in a vise-grips but their videos show it staying put after initial squeezing and I can't duplicate that.

Thanks for sharing James. Enjoyed the video and did a little light research. Engineering makes sense. Not sure it is worth upgrading unless you truly are hitting up against the capability of your hex drives... that said, if I was investing in hex drive tools, I would likely go that route.

The other 'technology' that I am aware of that hasn't caught fire is Torx Plus vs. Torx. Again, proprietary designs have limited the penetration of these in the market as well but another good system.

Sometimes I start thinking about "you get what you pay for" tools. I have often used "just good enough to get by" tools or "homeowner" quality tools, but they sometimes (often?) disappoint me. But I know sometimes if you use quality tools, life is just easier and products last longer.

I don’t have locking Knipix pliers so I’m not much help. Mine are just standard. But in that video it looks like the button will lock the lower jaw in place. Looks like it to me anyway.

I think the button allows the jaws to slide to different positions.

So tell me again which brad nailer is superior? Yeah. I was a bit surprised too.
and that is not even taking in to account the price.

Cordless nail guns aren’t on my shopping list yet. They’re too bullying and expensive for my likings.Bostitch smart point nail guns are my current favorite.
