Too cold to crank

/ Too cold to crank #21
Seeing you're from Wayne County, Ms and having a daughter living near Wayne County, Mi and having just read a post in another thread from a guy in Wayne County, Pa and living in Wayne County, Oh, I'm beginning to wonder why we just don't have a state named after the guy. Most of Ohio used to be Wayne County, but they chopped it up way early on into smaller counties, just leaving us.

Are all of these places named after "Mad" Anthony Wayne, the semi-famous general??

I am here in the northeast and 29 F is not cold. I wish it was that warm here. Right now as of Feb 20, 2015 time 12:10 midnight the temperature outside is minus 10 degrees. So tell me about it. I have my tractor outside and for the past 6 days I have not been able to start it. I put a new battery in it. I checked the fuses. I put a engine heater and I put a Diesel additive 911...nothing. It will not even click and it is very hard to be standing outside at this temperature as you could imagine. My situation is hopeless.

Maybe an idea Robert. Years ago I invested in a cheap torpedo heater. smallest I could get 50-60 thousand btu run on kerosene or diesel. I used this on truck and even backhoe already when either had problems starting or needed to work on something outside. May be able to put a tarp over tractor or hood or use some ply would to box in best you can to limit heat loss. Place heater few feet away from anything that will burn or melt and shoot heat in vicinity of engine, common sense plays hi here. Ive found if you can get some heat around engine or from below from a heat source provided its not to intense or close it tends to change the game. Here again close monitoring of how hot everything is getting and proximity to things such as battery, electrical, fuel rubber etc. Just my 2 cents.

It got down to -11F here a few nights ago....-3 last night ..so that means it would have to warm up 40 degrees to get to that c-o-l-d 29 degrees that started this thread.

I'd give a left sided acorn to see it reach that high.

We used to start our diesel power plant at the sawmill by lighting a diesel soaked rag on fire and holding it in front of the air intake.
No glow plugs on that cat.

Something is wrong if it won't crank at all with a fresh battery (you did charge it first right?). Next Fall you should consider switching to synthetic oil....makes a huge difference in cold temps.
