To those having picture sizing problems

I just thought I'd point this free on-line photo storage place out, since it AUTOMATICALLY resizes your original picture into several sizes that you can link in and use elsewhere. It allows you to store 200 photos for free, and to organize them into up to three sets (often called albums elsewhere). Then you can easily view a set as a slideshow.

I was so impressed, I went ahead and paid for an unlimited account... I'm not selling this site, nor do I profit in any way by it, I just thought it might be easier for some of you to share your PT pictures with us... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just to illustrate:
Here's my PT-425 pictures stored there...

Click on any one of the pictures, and it will be displayed larger. Just above the picture will be a button with a magnifying glass for All Sizes. Click it, and you can see the original size picture, plus the other sizes you can choose to use as thumbnails, send in emails, or link in to websites like here...

Just thought I'd do this to encourage more pictures!

As I found last night, posting pictures here is a bit of a drag. They have to be less than 100kb in size. But the problem with people posting pix at other sites and linking to those pictures here is that if you go back in this forum, you will find countless times where the pictures or videos that people refer to are gone.

I posted a link to the Microsoft Powertoys a couple of weeks ago.

Powertoys

One of the utilities is an image resizer. It's free and very easy to use. Just download and install the file. To resize a picture just select the picture and right-click. On the menu there will be a resize picture option.

It works great.

Does the MS product, or any other, give you the choice to resize by file size? I've played with several now but it's still a guessing game to figure out the right combination of pixel dimensions and image quality to hit the 100K mark /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In my experience, it takes a photo editing program to balance those two factors: image quality vs file size

I personally use PaintShop Pro -- but there are many others. With it, I can easily get photos under 100Kb (the limit here and on my own site) while keeping the display size 800x600.

That's one of the reasons why I recommended the Flickr site -- it does it automatically with a photo optimization algorithm, making it a "no-brainer" ....

I've noticed that too, missing pictures. My Web Sites are just
Sub Domains off of my regular business Site/Server. So I know my pictures aren't going anywhere.

I know what you mean though, nothing more annoying than to click on a link and nothing. Anyway if linking to a Web Site encourages members to post project pic's that's still a good thing. Sure helped me decide to buy my PT. Looking at Pictures and seeing what it was capable of accomplishing. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

The Powertoys program doesn't let you specify the file size. You specify the size of the picture. I have attached a file that is 800x600...the medium size in powertoys. The original file was 1.5MB and this file is 54kb. It seems to work pretty well to me and the file is considerably smaller than the original.

I have a couple of other programs that I used to resize photos, but since I got the Powertoys, it's about all I use; quickest and easiest way I've seen.

There are no options for selecting picture quality, just the size. I guess Microsoft Knows Best... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The ring:

My parents hosted a memorial golf tournament this past summer and Jim Lonborg who was the 1967 Cy Young award winner when he played for the Redsox stopped by to donate some signed baseballs for the event. He lives in town and my parents had worked with him on several other golf tournaments in town over the years. As I understand it, since he is in the Redsox Hall of Fame he received a championship ring also. There aren't as many diamonds or rubies as the current player rings but it is still pretty impressive. Mr. Lonborg had my daughter try on the ring and I snapped a couple of pictures.

Here is a picture of Jim Lonborg with my kids and my father.

Good one Reg /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'm a big Red Sox fan, but I can still appreciate a good one-liner when I see it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm with RobS, it's a pain to have to get the filesize under 100k by trial and error. And has anyone else found that files that are at or just under 100k sometimes get rejected as being too big? I just try to get them around 75-85k.

I found a program called Brilliant Photo that really is quite good at resizing. Still won't let you select a desired filesize, but it's a very good program for all kinds of photo editing.

Thanks for the tip on "Flickr" just put some photos there for the family to view and they love it!
